When I'm not in a cruising mood (most of the time then) usually change when she hits 6k - occasionally go to 6200 but careful when I do, think I've hit the limiter 3 times in total when I've been driving, and each time because it came up quicker than I was expecting (must have had the foot down harder than normal!)

There was that one time the mat stuck and she was bouncing off the redline for about 30-45 seconds :whistling:

..:: Edit ::..

Just seen those results - why do people change gear below 4k - the car is like a dog down there :o

People, you should be driving your cars at 8/10's ..... allowing both 2/10's for safe driving, and to allow for the engine to run smoothly.

This means you should be changing gears between 5,000 - 6,000 revs.

The optimum performance an an IS200 would be 5,500 revs.

Of course everyone drives differently, but that's how we were taught on our Police Response Driving Course :-)

Ta ! :driving:

OK I voted below 4k cause thats my usual driving but probably change in 4k-6k range at least once on each journey if not every time. Just depends on traffic, weather, mood etc. Some journeys it'll be 6k+ every time.

Ok, who are the pansies that said they don't know what the rev limiter is then?

If thats you, you need to come on the adventure meet at newmarket (thread in club meets section), and we'll show you where the limiter is!!!!

I wouldn't say that is thrashing it, however the higher the revs the more engine wear occurs. Taking to the red line, or rev limiter, all the time or taking it above 3,500-4,000 when the engine is cold would clearly not be good for the engine.
