Courtesy Car

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just got my is300 (what a great car it is :) well chuffed!). Anyway when I bought it it had some door dents (minor ones), paint run on one of the doors (wierd!) and chipped paint (all of which I didnt notice on the test drive!). The lexus dealer didn't repair it on pick up but when I mentioned it they said they will do the work anytime I'd like. Fair enough I thought so I am booking the car in for the work to be done. Now they will provide a courtesy car for me for the 2 or 3 days it will take for them to carry out the repair but said I have to insure the courtesy car... is that right?? Is that how it works usually in your experience?

Cheers

It is quite normal for any main dealer to ask you to insure the courtesey car, most modern insurance policies cover this, check your policy, if it is not stated on the document, just give your insurance company a ring to ensure if your policy covers you! if it does not, then be prepared to make a small payment to your insurance company to cover you for the period in question.

Hope this helps.

During a service it is becoming more common for the dealer to ask for the customer to pay for insurance and also for demostrators. Whilst it is possible it get this done some insurance companies may charge for the administrator and some may not insure you because the loan car is of higher value than your own if it's newer or a higher model.

However I do feel that it's a bit much that a customer has to pay when faults are being put right on their own car!

I've never had to use my own insurance when using a courtesy car.

I once paid £10 (I think) to use the car, but on the last few occasions I haven't paid a single penny. I've just been handed the keys, sign a piece of paper and off I go.

I think for this work you should expect a FREE courtesy car using the dealers insurance. I guess each dealer has it's own policy on this...

Yeah, like wise mate ... I did my 40K service just recently, and they gave my an 04 plate IS200, they got me to sign a paper, saying that "woodford lexus" (where I took the car) would be the insuring company, however I had to obviously pay some kind of excess of about £200 if I was to crash the car ....

Most insurance policies accept you to drive a courtesy car, but some will charge you an admin fee to change it over for the day !

Ring them and ask first, you don't want the worst to happen, whilst driving a courtesy car !

:crybaby:

Yeah I'll ring my insurance company today to make sure I'm covered. The loan car is a yaris so they probabaly wont charge me. However when I owned a vw before, they never charged me to insure their loan cars when in for a service etc, particulary bad in this case as they are sorting out problems which they should have sorted in the first place! oh well on the whole the dealer has been quite good and friendly.

thanks for the replies.

On a recent visit to Lexus Oxford, I was informed that from now on you MUST retrun the car on a full tank of fuel or there is a penalty charge.

Having said this, I always made sure that I left more fuel in it than I was given, always a git when you get given a loan car and have to run on fumes to the nearest petrol station.

I dont think you have to use your own insurance, but they do make you sign a form showing your up for a £500 excess should anything happen to the car!

Its all dealer dependent. Lexus Bracknell don't charge for courtesy cars other than ensuring its refuelled. Lexus Twickenham want you to get your own insurance AND pay an admin fee. I got round this by getting them to collect my car from me, they can take the time out to escort the car to and from the dealer if they want to charge for a courtesy car! If I remember rightly, Lexus Oxford want the car insured but don't charge an admin fee.

arrrgggghhhhhhhh I cant believe just dropped off my car for minor bodywork repair and picked up the courtesy car.... parked up to popped into a shop came back and some f***ing to**er mofo keyed the loan car all across that back door!!!!!! Im so gutted and sick!! why are there such people around! :tsktsk:

Anyway I dont want to give it back to lexus like this they will probabaly charge me a fortune, or claim under insurance as that will cost me 300 in excess as I had to insure it under my policy... what do you guys think give chipsaway a call and get it done before giving the loan car back?

Thing is mudzs the scratch spans over the whole of the back door... its a red yaris so is very visible 'cos its quite deep. Not sure what to do, I did thinking about doing nothig and see what happens, but when I got the car I signed a paper in which he stated the current condition of the car... and the scratch is totally obvious!

got a quote from chipsaway and it was 235 inc VAT

if I got hold of the tw*t who did it...........
