Hello everyone

Got my LS a while back and have been meaning to register ever since!

Its a 1995 series 3, colour is what I'd describe as a gunmetal grey and I bought it with 143k on the clock.

Not quite owned it 4 months and I've already put another 7k on!

Now for the inevitable questions which I'm hoping someone might be able to answer!

I recently put the car in for a 'B' service and mentioned some suspension related noises which they have diagnosed as worn ball joints (both lower front and n/s/r)

Is this a job that a general car mechanic could do or is it best left to a Lexus dealer/specialist?

The car makes what I can best describe as a fluttering/rapid ticking sound upon sudden acceleration (not so evident at higher speeds)

I was told this may be something to do with the EGR system.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so is there a way of curing it?

The function where the steering wheel retracts automatically when you remove the key doesn't seem to work correctly and sometimes I need to press the settings button on the door to restore the steering wheel to it's correct position.

If I use the control on the steering column then it appears to move freely although I have heard a slight squealing sound on occasions.

Next a query regarding tyre pressures.

The car has aftermarket 17" alloys with 225/55/17 tyres all round.

I have no idea of what psi I should keep these at. I'm guessing at 36, would this be about right?

Finally I've been filling up with Optimax since I bought the LS, my last car was turbocharged and I needed the higher octane rating that Optimax provides.

Is it beneficial to use this fuel with the LS or an unnecessary expense?

Apart from the above the car drives flawlessly and I'm really pleased with it particularly considering it's age and mileage.

Its in very nice condition as well, will try and post a pic up soon.

Steve,

Welcome! Glad to hear you enjoying the drive.

Most work can be done by a mechanic, not necessarily a Lexus tech.

I don't know where you get your parts from, but I get all mine from the US. It's way way cheaper than the UK. Front lower ball joints cost me just over 20 quid each.

Is it your EGR pipe that needs replacing? If so, that's a 10 hour job!

Yeah, the tyres should be somewhere between 35-50psi. Why not call the tyre manufacturer and ask them for the exact spec ?

Not sure about the steering column issue.

I tried Optimax once or twice, and it didn't work out that good considering cost/benefit ratio. May work better since you have a newer engine than mine..

Hope this helps.
