You shouldn't need to change to a higher boiling point fluid as bigger brakes should run cooler and therefore shouldn't heat the fluid so much.

Still going to a DOT4 won't cost much more and will mix with what is left in the system. The only problem is that a garage may well top it up with DOT3 in the future bringing the whole system back down to a DOT3 spec.

when used dot 5 on my bikes i had to change it a lot due to it losing performance over a good few trips and absorbing moisture. i would just stick with the standard stuff

Dot 5 and Dot 5.1 are different things. Dot 5 is silicone based and is not compatible with Dot 3 or 4 and as fluff has said doesn't absorb water, which brings other issues. Dot 5 should last much longer than the others.

Dot 5.1 is compatible with Dot 3 and 4. It does absorb water so needs to be changed like 3 and 4 however even with quite a large amount of water content will still perform as well as Dot 3.

Emm.... Let Mr Fargo fill you in ... with Pictures ..

But the kit's been fitted , excellent, straight forward....

Must add that this kit WILL fit using OEM 17" and OEM 18" alloys ! Yes you read right ! I tryed my OEM 18"s and they cleared leaving 2mm gap between back face of spokes and front face of caliper. ( the fixing bracket can also be shimmed quite easily to leave at least 5mm clearance if required )

The OEM 17" left plenty of room for clearance between the back face of the spokes to the front face of the caliper easily, the rolling internal radius of the wheel also leaves enough clearance for the brake line etc...

So just got back from uncle Steve's where we fitted the Prolex Big Brake Kit.....

Easy Peasy..

One hour max per side. and thats a comfortable hour, taking your time etc..

Tools:- 17mm socket

10mm Allen key socket

10mm Spanner

Tin Snips

Penatrating Oil

Dot 4 Brake fluid

Rubber Mallet and or hammer

Apprentice to wash the car and make the teas etc..

Firstly jack up the car and remove the wheel.

Step 1 - Remove the oem calipers via to 17mm bolts on the back of the calipers, here

the complete assembly will slide off the disc, and remove the oem disc

which will need some help via a rubber mallet and hammer, and place

calipers on a box out of the way.here

Step 2 - You will have to trim back the oem brake dust shield as it fouls the discs,

so with the tin snips cut a bit off, once that is done, file the edge and

apply some rust inhibiter or the like.before during after

Step 3 - Mount the BBK caliper braket using the oem bolts from the oem calipers,,

The brackets are handed and if you look at the bracket you will see some

numbers and on the end of the number is either a LH or RH for left hand

or right hand.here

Step 4 - Fit the disc. here

Step 5 - Mount the calipers and using the two bolts suppled. here

Step 6 - Slide in the pads, making sure that the black backing plate is in position.backing plate here

Step 7 - Fit the brake pad retaining pins and secure with the pin provided. here

Step 8 - Fit the cross piece under the two pins and that is that..here complete

Check the clearence once disc and calipers are fitted here

Step 9 - If you are using the oem brake lines then you need to remove it from the

oem calipers and fix it too the BBK caliper here.. or if your using a braided line

then this will need fixing to the oem brake line at the other end aswell.

Then follow the brake bleeding procedure..

Check the clearence once disc and calipers are fitted here

And it should look like this adn with my wheel fitted, like this

After you have bled the brakes its a good ide to wash the car to rid any stray brake fluid hand prints.. i like to use an apprentice and his jet wash for this..here

Also some good news for those with standard lexus 17" and 18" wheels... it all fits.

oem 17" #1

oem 17" #2 clearence

oem 17" #3 clearence

oem 17" # 4 clearence

oem 18" #1

oem 18" #2 clearence

oem 18" #3 clearence

now although the calipers clear with the 18" oem wheels the clearence is only a mm or 1.5mm at most so if a mm or 2 was sahved off he calipers moutning block then all will be sweet

I will let you all know how i get on with the brakes once they bed in properly...

if you have 1.5 mm clearence, nothing neds shaving off anywhere.

if you shave anything of the mounting block, you will be moving the whole caliper inwards............it wont fit over the disc then!!!!

would have thought that you would have PROLEX-UK on them dave? :duh:
