Car Covers?

I thought the modern covers were a little better quality than that, not to mention they are an additional security deterent, and you don't have to clear the ice of in the mornings :)

Surely you will only get ust developing if there is exposed bodywork, which will rust irrespective of whether its covered or not ?

The car will sweat under cheap covers causing rust!!!

you have got to look at factors such as :

when you come home in the rain, are you gonna put the cover on

when the cars dirty, putting the cover on or off is going to scratch it

where are you going to store the cover when you are out , especially when its wet

if its on the street it must show its tax disc

a cover will not stop a thief, and may even attract attention

best solution would be some of the liquid cover, a good bit of wax !

I agree, under 'cheap' covers, the car would sweat.. hence why I suggested a 'modern' day cover... would anyone here put a 'cheap' cover on their Lex? I wouldn't buy one that would not do the job properly personally.

Marconi boy: Rust will only occur if there is exposed metal.. thats like saying it will rust up just taking it out in the rain.

If you have a coat of wax on the car, you're hardly likely to scratch the paintwork removing or fitting a cover... paintwork is not that soft, we'd all be in trouble if it was.

I don't agree with a cover attracting attention, unless of course you buy a bright yellow one. I never said it would stop a theif, I said it would be an additional deterant!. Nothing will stop a theif if they really want your car.. but anything put in place to hinder or discourage them is always a good thing.

Anyway, never claimed to be an expert... I have never owned a car cover, and therefore not in a position to provide definitive answers.. perhaps there are others with experience of such things?

The poor guy only asked where he could get one from, not to get slated for it! At the end of the day, flotsams solution of a lock up within walking distance would be the answer, but perhaps a cover is the next best thing for some people.

Bad idea IMO. Scratch your car, don't let it breath so will rust and they normally rip off, or at least make a noise, in high wind.

Mmmmmm.....i was going to buy one of these as im away most of december, tax disc woudnt have been a prob as its on my drive...not sure now :unsure: Oli i was going to get one from lex car car

Ok thanks for the info.

Looked at Argos but not very helpful.......... small, medium or large??

I was looking for a more 'tailored' one, however there was one place that did it for £140. One off makes I think

Just thought there was a produced for small volumes.

In terms of other factors. The are we are in is very low risk and the car will be parked up on the drive and under some annoying trees........ (will be gone when we buy the place, as we are renting)

Thing is, I don't use the car during the week/day as I commute everyday and only use it maybe at night and weekends. I think a cover will definitely be better than leaving it fester under the sap and bird cack!

LEX CAR CARE?? Where and how much??

Cheers!

i have a custom fitted car cover, i bought it from an old member (tony brady)

it is of very good quality and fits perfectly, is soft and breathable and has very well placed ties and even a lock for it and has a pocket for the aerial and wing mirrors.

In fact tony had to take loads of measurments and send it to them, think then it cost about £300 !

if i get a chance illl get the name off it. oh - it looks like same material as in the link above,

I had a cover - an expensive one - and one night in the dark I dropped it on the gravel driveway. Thought nothing much of it and put the cover on.

Next morning there was a very nasty scratch on the bonnet - I guess a stone got caught under there.

So do exercise more caution than I did!
