Satnav/phone Entry Inactive Whilst Moving

Recommended Posts

Is there any "fix" that would allow my passengers to make SatNav adjustments whilst the car is moving as both the GPS and the phone system on the 2005 model won't allow changes to be made unless the car is stationary, which isn't always practical?

i think some people in the USA have fiddled with the handbrake sensor part of the nav, so when this is earthed the nav thinks the handbrake is up..

however as much as you may think its unpractical and that you wont use the modified nav yourself.. then BAM your front end is slightly crumpled...

Well the car can detect if someone (or something) is in the passenger seat (the seatbelt sign starts flashing) - surely then it should be possible to use full functionality of SatNav - this is a really annoying feature.

You are right about it being annoying, even with a passenger it still doesn't allow full function of either the phone or GPS......

It must be something to do with the speed of the car and not the handbrake because functionality resumes at 0-1 mph with no handbrake action (I have tried lifting handbrake until warning light comes on but this has no effect either...

Is there not a voice command for some of these tasks you want to be able to do whilst moving? There are 200 of them after all, you'd think one of them would be of use whilst moving.

It must be a new feature on the 2005 model RX300 SE-L as I got mine in September this year I can opperate all the functions on the 2004 model  on the move, but it doesn't have blue-tooth.

Realspeed

You can input a destination other than home whilst moving?

Sorry thought you said your car was the 2005 model. One of the revisions made to the 2005 model year car is voice activation.

To the best of my knowledge it is a 2005 model as it has Bluetooth and digital traffic info, both of which have only just been introduced for '05. It certainly doesn't mention it in the manual and I phoned the dealer, who confirms that it is not available on the RX. Well not yet anyway!

I also have a Toyota Previa with the same GPS system - same problem. There must be a fix!

RX300 and SC430 new DVD Navigation and BluetoothR wireless technology

New to RX300 and SC430 for 2004 is the superlative Lexus DVD Navigation

system. Thanks to a DVD unit which covers the whole of Western Europe,

drivers do not need to change a map coverage disc or reset the system

at

country borders.

The system is also real-time enabled: In countries with Dynamic Route

Guidance (DRG) facilities, the RDS-TMC equipped Navigation system is

constantly updated with detailed information on traffic conditions such

as

congestion, accidents or delays. To avoid these, the system

automatically

plans, and offers the driver, an alternative route.

The Lexus DVD Navigation system is up to seven times faster than many

conventional systems, and offers up to three different routes to

destination. It also features a dual map display function, enabling

both

turn-by-turn detail and location overview maps to be displayed

simultaneously.

In addition to the map and graphic functions, Lexus Navigation offers

voice

guidance in any one of eight languages. And the DVD database may be

searched

for Points Of Interest such as shopping centres, restaurants or tourist

information offices. A hotel may even be located by simply inputting a

telephone number. In each case, the system will then guide the driver

to the

precise location.

The RX300 and SC430's Navigation system, along with car audio, climate

control and images for the parking assist monitor, is displayed on a

centrally mounted, 7" LCD multi-information screen which features an

infra-red, touch sensitive panel for ease of use. System convenience is

further enhanced by a voice recognition system which responds to more

than

200 spoken commands relating to the navigation, audio and

air-conditioning

functions in English and German.

The Lexus RX300 and SC430 also benefit from the latest,

state-of-the-art

BluetoothR wireless technology. Using an advanced, wireless hands-free

system, your compatible mobile phone may be activated through the

multi-information display screen. The system does not require the use

of an

additional SIM card, simply linking directly to the card within the

mobile

phone and allowing any one of up to four phone users on board to be

instantly connected.

The system comprises a microphone and a control unit connected with the

touch screen monitor. If commanded, the phone will automatically

transfer

its phonebook to the Navigation screen unit, which stores up to 1000

numbers. These may be dialled either conventionally or, via the touch

screen.

All phone calls are channelled through the high quality loudspeakers of

the

RX300's sophisticated sound system, and the car's navigation and

telecommunications systems are closely integrated. For example, if a

local

point of interest is marked on the monitor, a phone call can be made to

the

site's information service simply by touching the relevant screen icon.

I really appreciate your comments.......they must have forgotten to add it to the first 2005 cars, I will certainly be asking why and when a retro-fit (I assume software upgrade) is available.

We're picking ours up on the 18th December. :yahoo: Had a reason to phone my dealer today and thought I'd ask about this. Seems that the press release Lexus released was wrong and should only have refered to the LS and not the SC and RX. Apparently a memo waas issued a little while ago to correct their mistake.

Doesn't that make you feel better
