Overall I don't think that he has got a point.

If you are speeding and are caught what is the problem?

Surely the argument must be against the law that sets the speed limit not the fact that you chose to ignore it and are caught?

If you are held up at gun point and have £10 taken from you - is that any less a crime than being held up at gun point and having £10,000 stolen? You are still prosecuted but the penalty may be slightly less.

Fact - if you hit a child at 35mph death is far more likely than if you hit a child at 30mph.

Also the noise from a car at 35mph is far greater than from a car at 30mph a fact that is far too often overlooked in residential areas

And yes I too struggle to keep to 30mph in a 3 litre automatic.

Glynn, I'm a 39 year old Vet not a 'boy racer. I did not choose to 'ignore' the speed limit and was driving safely for the conditions on my way to put a dog down. Without looking constantly at the speedometer it is virtually impossible not to drift over 30 to some degree as the road twists, turns and you approach a gradient. It is in my 3.0 RX anyway and I cannot believe Glynn that you have never done this yourself.

I do not think that doing 35 in a 30 limit compares to holding someone up at gunpoint. Yes a child stepping into the road stands less chance of survival if hit by a car doing 35 but also stands more chance of being hit by a driver worrying too much about keeping the needle on 30.

Scarface, I do not recall making this 'personal' and from what you say you agree there is fault in the system. No offence intended. Like many proffessions the reputation of many rests on the actions of a few.

This topic is about one of our members having his car stolen by some scumbag. I assume he posted on here hoping for some assistance in its recovery. And also to let other LOC members be aware of the mistake he made, All these other "OFF TOPIC" issues regarding speeding,bad/good policing have nothing to do with it. This should be in the"VENT YOUR SPLEEN " area of the GOLD forum.

Not heard anything yet, I don't think I'll see it again. It's been a miserable few weeks since it went.

Keeping fingers crossed that it may be found

Well you just might see it again, sometimes the police find a stolen car hidden up somewhere, and keep tabs on it for a while to see if the culprits come back for it.

I have been in this position with a lost vehicle myself, after some weeks and being paid out by the insurance Co, I was informed of the cars whereabouts and when it was located!!, I of course informed the insurance Co who reclaimed it.
