Lambda Sensor

Mate of mine has a scooby, he was driving on thye M25 when the engine cut out........turns over but will not start, on closer examination we found that the wires to the lambda sensor hjad melted onto the exhaust manifold, wires intact just the plastic melted...................would a faulty lambda sensor stop a car from starting or would it just mess up the mixture and O2 readings???? .....any ideas greatfully recieved

It wouldn't on a Toyota it would just go into fail-safe mode which would lose you some power and economy. The engine check light would come on.

Depends on the design of the ECU, don't know how the Scooby would handle it.
