Moves To Outlaw In-car

“In-Car speed camera detectors are to be banned, ministers announced yesterday. Any of the 100,000 devices sold in Britain which interfere with or jam speed traps will be illegal, possibly within a year, when the Road Safety Bill becomes law. Detectors which can ‘see’ if a camera is active, or alert a driver to its presence by picking up radar or laser beams, will also be outlawed. But GPS satellite devices, which inform drivers where cameras are positioned, will be allowed. Those which work by using downloaded software which charts camera locations will also be exempt. Watchdogs have branded the devices ‘irresponsible’ but others believe detector users are more aware of their speed limits. Others measures in the Bill include raising the penalty for using mobiles while driving the £60 plus three points.”

detectors are illegal in most of europe - be careful not to get caught as the fine will be huge.

in the article it says " Any of the 100,000 devices sold in Britain which interfere with or jam speed traps will be illegal" they are illegal now anyway i thought.

yes they will be banned dave,, unless of course you have an automatic garage door :winky: :shifty: .

doesnt specifically say that owning a detector (opposed to gps based detector) will be illegal, so if that is not to be banned then you would have to be caught using the detector to slow down.
