Possibly Purchasing A 95 Gs300! Please Help...

Recommended Posts

I am test driving a '95 GS300 touring edition. She has 96,000 miles and runs beautifully. I called the previous owner and he told me a little bit about the time he owned it. I would like to get a few questions answered from you guys, since this is probably the best place to get the best info.

-Headlight capsules are very faded. How much can I expect to pay for a new set?

-Does this car have a timing belt or chain? When should it be replaced?

-For everyone that owns the same model, do you use premium gas all the time?

-With 96K, should I use synthetic oil or regular Castrol?

-Anything I should watch out for that is common with these models?

I appreciate any help you guys can give me. I hope to respond tomorrow afternoon with "new gs300 owner!" :D

Thanks in advance once again!

Hi

Welcome to LOC

You may want to post your questions on the US forums as prices and service intervals vary between countries.

It uses a timing belt - should be changed @ 60,000 miles in the UK, although it doesn't damage the engine if it does snap.

I would use premium gas.

When you say the lights are faded, just the bulbs or the lens? If it's a plastic len then you may be able to polish them to remove the scratches that make them dull.

Thank you for the welcome!

Yes, the lens are faded. It appears the actual headlights are fine, but the lens are yellowish. What do you suggest to clear them up a bit? Thanks!!
