Ecu Loosing Codes For Remote Keys

Hi guy's....

Last year 07/11/03 i had to take my T reg IS200 into Lexus Bolton because my key fobs would no longer unlock the door's. I tried new batteries but still failed to work. I phoned Lexus who said the ECU can just loose the codes for no reason. I was told that it would cost me 40 quid plus VAT to sort it, I was also told if it couldn't be sorted it would cost £1000 + VAT for new ECU. Anyway 13 months later it has done it again phoned Lexus to ask why it has done it a second time and i was told they believe all the mobile phone and electrical towers around the Trafford Center can cause this, (pretty strange as i live about 40 miles away.).

Anyway i just wanted to know has anyone else come across this fault as i dont fancy spending around 50 quid every year just so i can unlock the doors from my Fobs.....

Cheers Guy's.....

I had this, took it in twice to the dealer, and they ended up sorting it out under warranty, don't know what they did, but they tried it on by saying that it was probably the signal interferance from the nearby RAF base.

It's sorted tho, and i doubt very much that what they did cost a grand, they only had it for a couple of hours!!

I think earlier vehicles can lose their programming. You can do the reprogramming yourself. Use the search function, the procedure has been posted before.

External interferrence will normally only stop the key working at that location, move the vehicle and it will start working again, not wipe the ECU memory.

My last IS lost its "memory" a few times. Apart from when in France allways sorted Free off charge by Lexus Stockport, even when out of warrenty.

Thank you very much mate...

Does sound very funny but i will definately let you guy's know how i get on.

BTW Lexus GB called me back and have informed me that Lexus in Bolton want my car to fully go through it and find the cause, However they are still not saying how much it will cost me.

I will try this procedure first.
