What do you want from a ISP just the connection or would you like hosting of your domain with webspace and email? Do you need SMTP mail, a static IP or even a block of IPs? Would you like virus protection and anti Spam, would you like free migration from AOL so that you have no down time? Would you like award winning 24/7 support but not pay the premium for it?

Topletter.com is by far the best. Excellent service & support. Quick fixes to problems. No 0906 numbers just local rate & a live chat facility. You will not look back if you choose Topletter. Just remember to thank me. (Make sure you get IPStream and avoid Data Stream)

I use NTL at home and is great. No problems very good price and very reliable. On the other hand I use BT at work and I feel the serive is best described as shabby!! Connection speed is not very consistant and often displays " This page is currently unavailable" very frustrating!!

NTL all the way!! :winky:

You will always find somebody who hasn't had good service from a provider. Personally I had NTL for 4 weeks until I demanded they release me from their contract after providing me with a broadband service that for the majority of the time was slower than dial-up and that their engineers and support staff couldn't resolve.

  • 2 weeks later...

finally, i'm in the 21st century!!

my bt broadband has gone live today & it's seriously brill!! (compared to the mind numbing slowness of prev dial up).

i can only get 512kps at the moment where i live & cable isn't available either, but it's a vast improvement on dial up. i went with bt because they were the cheapest to get up & running for ISDN to ADSL transfer compared to set up costs with other providers. 10 days from order to activation (even over xmas!), all transferred & dusted with no problems.

happy hours surfing at lightening speeds coming up...:)

I have been with freeserve anytime then upgraded to broadband as soon as it was available on my telephone exchange.

Using a single computer on the supplied modem has been no problem but recently I have been using a wanadoo (new freeserve name) approved router and it has caused some problems even though I have the top package available.

The speed is down slightly which is to be expected but when the server is busy the router cuts in and out or slows to such a slow speed its not worth using

I cannot get the 1 mgb so have to make do with half that service (too far from exchange) and the cable companies are to darn idle and lazy to run a cable out to where I live.

I understand as a point of interest that Wanadoo can detect routers on a line and can interfere with them somehow to stop use at peak times. I don't know how true it is but there are whispers. May pay to check this out before signing up with any server company.
