using another garage for brake pads

HI guys,

I got my brake pads changed last year at Kwik Fit for £160 (front and rear and labour). The pads were Mintex brand, and have been great so far.

I will never change pads again at Lexus who were asking £400 for the same job (and probably parts no different from Mintex???).

Has anyone ever got pads done outside the Lexus network? What was your experience?

I had my pads chanaged at quick fit once, but this was a couple of cars ago...a mercedes 190E Cosworth. I was gutted because the pads they fitted didnt have the brake pad sensors in & every time I went to brake It sounded like I had a chicken in my wheels sqwaking away. I think after about 900 miles I just couldnt take it anymore and just took it back into mercedes and got originals fitted. I havent been back since.....but that was a good 5-6yrs ago so things may have changed by now & it could just have been the parts they had for my particular car.

I used TRD pads - they warped the standard discs on my Lex GS / V300.

Performance pads only really work on performance discs, otherwise they can warp your standard discs.

Standard pads are available by Blueprint, v.cheap, around £25 for front pads.

I now am upgraded to Black Diamond discs + Ferodo pads, excellent for road use, 3-5 laps track use.

This should be available for the LS.
