2004 Alloy Wheels

Will Lexus ever learn !!

Had my Lexus IS200 for about 3 months now, after cleaning the alloys I noticed that they had all started to corrode. :offtopic:

However, I took the car back to the local dealer this morning and they informed me that they would replace all the ones which had corrosion.

I am sure this happened on the last set of alloys Lexus used on their IS200.

Has anybody else had corrosion aswell.

PS I have the 11 spoke dark grey alloys.

Had mine a year now from new, done 10,000 miles.

5 spoke and no corrosion yet.

I Wonder what is the common denominator with the corrosion ?

All I do is clean the wheels every fortnight or so with one of those red handled mini bog brushes. I don't use Wonder Wheels or any other specialist product.

Just a bucket of turtle wax car shampoo.

i got new ones today first change in 20 months. they are nice and shiny but i think the original ones look better as there is now little definition between the painted surface and what used to look like polished alloy they've put so much clear coat on them they just look painted all over.

This must cost Lexus GB an absolute bomb. Mine is coming up to 12 months old and just spotted the first pitting on both rear wheels when washing last w/e. Obviously the road crap and salt/grit of recent weeks not helped, but the car is washed regularly.

Not really expected on a car costing £22k when new...

Well it had to happen. Washed the car today and there's the corrosion poking through on the back edges (7 spoke type)

I'm on just over 7000 miles so I guess I'll hang on till it goes in for it's service at 10,000 and then get them sorted. Can't believe the new alloys still suffer from the same issues... how hard can it be to get something like this right on a 22K car!

ah, the problem is that you are getting WATER on them. The only way to stop the Lexus alloys from corroding is to keep them dry AT ALL TIMES.

So, dont wash them and certainly dont take the car out in the rain. Keep car in garage, only drive it when sunny, then wipe dirt/brake dust off with a DRY cloth EVERY time you return home.

:winky:

Here speaks a man who has had TWO replacement sets of alloys. My latest set is faring much better (thicker lacquer apparently), but I do have a little corrosion starting on rear offside where I clipped a kerb and damaged the lacquer.

I can't believe Lexus still can't get this right.

Common issue on the RX's as well... mate has an 04 plate and had to get a new set at 10k miles....and that was on a RX300SEL...~£39k worth...

I'm watching mine every time I wash them...

When the rep brought the new GS here a few weeks ago I was having a chat about various Lexus topics.

He reckoned that road salt from all over Europe had been sent to Japan to assist with a fix, but to date without success.

Mine have very tiny spots on the inner leading edge were I reckon small stones have just nicked the surface on the front offside only - certainly nowhere near the damage pictured - that's horrendous !

The other interesting point I noted was that the new GS mirrors are just like the IS as they collect (soapy) water during washing that is promptly sprayed down the front doors on the first journey.

best thing to do is to wash them regularly, mine where fine until in december, when i had driven the car in the wet, got covered in salt, didnt clean the car until after feb/mar time when i spotted they were pitting

why is it only Lexus that have this problem with the wheels? I had a peugeot 306 which cost half the price of the Lex and didn't suffer from alloy corrosion, ball joint problems and prone to stone chips. We should complain and get the waranty extended at least.

This has been done for the stereo so it should be done for the wheels
