Tyre recommendation

I got mine replaced by a 3rd party. The original tyres had been superceded by Bridgestone Potenza S03 I think, although I kept the sizes the same at 215/45 ZR17.

I could only get two at the time, and I have Michelin Pilot Sports on the front.

As to which ones are my faves, not sure yet. Waiting to see how they wear!!!

Thanks for the reply. I have the Dunlop SP9000's on mine and having done over 24K on them I think I will stick with them.

My issue is really to do with the alignment / tracking that others have mentioned that 3rd parties don't have the equip./know how to set/adjust appropriately.

Definately go third party, you will save yourself a lot of cash. The tyres that always win the magazine tyre tests are the TOYO PROXES T1S's

I think Mat will vouch for me when I say they are fantastic tyres:yes:

That is what I will be fitting next anyway:D

I'm with Matthew on this. Costco in Watford do a great deal on Michelin which are not cheap but last much longer than the others. Also Costco's fitting standards are first-class.

  • 1 month later...

When I attended the Beaulieu meet I was quite embarassed but thankful when Lexus owners pointed out to me that all my 'directional tyres; were pointing the wrong way. I had changed my wheels and had been unaware that the arrow on the tyre must point towards the direction of travel.

After the meet I quickly changed them around and they are now correct.

Yep, finally went to ATS in Potters Bar. £472 all in for 4 x Dunlop SP9000 sports, inc fitting balancing and alignment.

I had the same on before and was happy with them so kept to the same.

I think there are cheaper options but there comes a time when you have to take the plunge !

Jenners - how are you finding your sp9000's?

As mine is a company car, I have to go with the leasing companies decision, and they decided that they would not pay for 9000's and gave me 2000's instead - which are not rotational :crybaby: ... and they are rubbish!!! The back end is really light once they were fitted - have played about with the pressures a bit to get some stability

Might try and hold out for some 9000's next time, or some Pilot's B)

My local dealer, Oxford, don't even do tyres. All they do is take it to another dealer (a ford one) who have a Kwik fit tyre section.

May as well go to a tyre specialist and it appears to be something which no one considers breaks warranty rules etc.

JM,

Think you need to check back at Oxford, they had all the equipment fitted in 3 weeks ago, they have state of the art tracking system in there now, they do full tyre fitting service as well.

Although I would suggest if you are going to be in the OXford area then try Charletts in Yarnton, most of the local car dealers get the tyres from there and they are cheap. I was quotes £720 by kwik it and National tyres for 4 Yoko's but they fitted them for £453, the only problem is that they are unable to track cars that have been tinkered with in the suspension department.

Car feels good, good grip and am just keeping an eye out for the wear on the tyres - everything looking fine at the mo.

Seemed to have all the right equipment but to be totally honest I am no expert when it comes to what is the state of the art equipment - I rely on the superior knowledge of the rest of you to give me some guidance !!

As mentioned earlier, v.happy with the tyres since they last a lot longer than I was LED to believe when I first got the IS200. :hehe:
