Hi all,

I'm about to buy a 2001 SE, and was wondering if this model has a DVD navigation or CD? Are there any enhanced features on the DVD?

Should I be worried that the thing may not work properly? When I test drove it, I checked it by simply trying to find my place which was 15 miles away (not the best way i know).

Also, does the navigation cover roads all over Europe? In case I take it on a trip on the continent?

thanks very much for the help.

depends when in 2001 it was made.

the nav was upgraded to DVD around Sept 2001 I believe - so if its a 51 01, you should be OK.

its easy to tell.

The CD nav had a remote control unit.

The DVD nav has a fixed control unit where an arm rest should be / by the gear shift / handbrake.

The DVD works all over Europe (although I never tested how comprehensive the cover was)

The CD works only in the UK - if you want to use it abroad you have to get a different disk. Lexus have been known to load people disks for holidays in France etc.

Hey thanks for the info. The one I'm seeing is 51 reg, but has a REMOVABLE remote that mounts just ahead of the armrest. does that sound familiar / right? so basically you can use it plugged in as well as like a remote.

was the older one different?

thanks

that sounds like the remote control on the older versions - so it will be a CD based nav system

Yes defo sounds like the older CD version. If you do want to go abroad ring Lexus GB about 6 weeks in advance and they will oan you a France or whatever disc free of charge, with the exception you have to pay for recorded delivery to send it back. I used it 3 times.
