Clunking Brakes & Tingling Sound From Rear

Hey guys! Had my GS since Sept 04 - great car (its a 94 Mk1) wanted one for ages! - love the site - full of information!!!!

I was wondering if any one has heard of or experienced the following problems...

1- I experience I clunking (sometimes rumble) sound from brakes when gently braking whilst turning at low speeds (into parking bay, or into streets etc). I had all the disks & pads changed in Dec 04 and the sound completely dissapeared! However last week the sound has returned!!! My local garage say they can't find anything wrong!

2 - When stopped in traffic or at traffic lights occasionally (more often than not) I hear a "tinkling/squeeling/high pitched rattle" sound (car in drive - brake pedal depressed). If i switch to neutral it dissapears, or if I release the break pedal it goes too! Again the garage can't find anything! I have a hunch that it could be a bracket of some sort rattling becuase, as with the brakes the sound went after my service (braked & service in Dec) - Doesn't sound like the tran box!

Can any one help me with my problems? The noises are driving me nuts - especially because they disapeared for a few months and have now returned - such a great car but I'm worried the probs could lead to worse things.

Any help would be really appreciated....

:duh:

1 - sounds like the pads or caliper moving - if it's the pads then you can apply copper grease to stop it. The link below shows the areas to apply the grease

2 - possibly a heat shield rattling at a certain rpm. I guess you will need to put the car on ramps and check it whilst it is making the noise.

Dongill did you find out what the problems were in the end?

Colin, I've noticed that the brake discs aren't actually held onto the hubs, so can theorectically turn between the lug nuts, could this be the clunking noise? If so does it just mean the wheels need retorquing onto the hubs? I've also heard the brake pad shims go, and once replaced it stops the noise (so a lexus mechanics has fobbed us off with)
