90k Service

My 90k service is almost due and thinking whether to have my cam-belt changed! I know it's usually at 100k but if I remember correctly someone had their cam-belt snapped before 100k and don't want to be in a position like that! (does anyone know what happened to that fella?) I also have extended warranty, so in theory if it did snap before 100k, that should cover it? What shall I do? Comments appreciated.... :)

£310.55 for the cam-belt change   :crybaby: That was the quote from Lexus Woodford!!! That is bit steep......  :yack:

:crybaby: = Don't know how much it is to DIY mate ? - or can they not be done on the IS200's ?

Of course they can be done by yourself.......if you've done one b4. :D

Whole lot cheaper than a dealers price

If it is done by DIY does it affect the warranty and service history? i.e. will it need to be stamped to say belt been changed etc??? obviously don't want it to affect the value of the car...when selling it at later stage!?

If its due for a service anyway, why not get it serviced then they (lexus dealer) will stamp your book then get the cambelt done by an independent garage.

Under EU laws i think as long as the garage is vat registered then your warranty will not be an issue.

I've just had my 50k service done by Lex Edgware Rd. They said I needed replacement ball joints, etc. I took it to a local garage called 'Jem' (just around the corner. They specialise in Japanes motors. Anyway I got a substantially reduced quote for the work. The salesman noticed I had just had the service done and mentioned something about the timing belt. He said I should consider changing the timing belt. He went on to say he 'used' to work for Lexus and had seen vehicles same age/mileage come in with timing belt problems. So not only was I advised to change the timing belt but to also do all of the tensioners at around £350!

Anyone care to comment or have experience of Jem (just off the Edgware Road, London NW9)?

Get it changed mate if your keeping the car beyond 100k, and get the roller along with the belt changed. I call it the Cambelt Kit cost £75 from Lexus. :D
