Rx400h Launched In Japan - Harrier Hybrid

Recommended Posts

The japaneese version of the RX400h (Toyota Harrier Hybrid) was launched in Japan yesterday.

As there has been may speculataions as to wheter the RX400h would have a conventional ignition key or a start button, it is intereting to see the Harrier has a start button similar to that of the Prius.

Have a look at: http://toyota.jp/harrierhybrid/interior/index.html

Even though the site is in Japaneese, much interesting information can be derived from it -

Main entry site with fantastic entry graphics: http://toyota.jp

I thought the JApanese versions will now also be branded as Lexus?

Also does anyone know what the prices are for these. It would be worthhile (depenadant on Cost) to import one of these as the waiting list in the uk is pretty long on these cars.

It is interesting to see the colours that are available in Japan.

Assuming the Harrier is produced on the same production line as the Lexus, makes one wonder why the bronze and red colours are not available in the UK.

interesting about keyless entry system... notice hot it has sensors on the doors as well.

As to lexus in Japan, first 3 models will be new GS, new IS and (facelifted?) SC. Then as other models start getting facelifts/redesigns, they will be going into Lexus stable.

There are three models:

1. DAA-MHU38W-AWXGK - Harrier Hybrid

2. DAA-MHU38W-AWXGK(L) - with L package

3. DAA-MHU38W-AWXGK(S) - with Premium package

Recommended retail prices:

1. 4,095,000 Yen (consumer tax 3,900,000 Yen)

2. 4,410,000 Yen (consumer tax 4,200,000 Yen)

3. 4,620,000 Yen (consumer tax 4,400,000 Yen)

Recycling duty also apply in Japan

Wheter consumer tax applies to exports I do not know.

These hybrids are a nice new technology, but will only be efficient in city traffic.  On the highway... hybrids are not much more fuel efficient.

Unless you live in a country with lots of traffic jams.

I wonder what the fuel efficiency in mountain roads will be like..

Often you wont go above 60km/h up or down hill, but is the electric power enough for climbing?
