I want to buy or a IS 200 or a IS 300

Need to know pro`s or cons for both ways to go

IS200 manual gearbox with 2jzgte swap,

or

IS300 manual gearbox with tuning, bolt on turbo kit or something.

It look like it has the same price tag :)

All info is welcome

Thanks!

Does the IS300 come with a manual box as standard?

Don't think the IS300 auto would work too well with a turbine, due to turbo lag / kickdown...

Mind you, there is that mental geezer in Houston or Galveston with the IS300/turbo that puts out +700 horse :excl:

the is 300 has more potential  and will be cheaper to do

you could bolt aturbo on the is200

or ow about the altezza loads of tuning potential

What are the main differences in the car package (diff, susp, wiring and stuff)

Need to know before buying the car, rest comes later.

The mechanical part of a swap is no problem for me, i need to get my hands on some manuals before make a choice.

Did the IS300 come just in automatic????

I read something about peddels E-shift???

When a 2jzgte swap is an option, can a supra tranny be used for a 300?

laterszzz

Have you read the Monster thread?

Don't think so. :winky:

Otherwise he wouldn't have asked for an IS200 -> 2JZ conversion. :ph34r:

If I were you:

Get an IS300 5-speed M/T from USA and turbocharge it.

Or do the same with the 3S-GE Altezza.

Another possibility is to SC or TC the IS200, but the 2.0L I6 engine isn't the best base to tune.

3S-GE or 2JZ is fine. ;)

I think it's unfair to require someone to read a 50 page thread - a thread where 90% of the replies are of the type "good job" "nice" "cool" etc - to get help with a simple question.

OK then a short version:

Mat's Monster Project runs for the last 2-2.5 years (I think  ), TDI did a very good job on it and it's not really finished yet, means it still doesn't run perfect at the moment. All in all you have to rebuild the car nearly and modify everything in it.

Everything clear? ;)

Go for an IS300 or an Altezza and get the best out of it. :winky:

i think its unfair to ask a question without at least trying to assimilate the info in the monster thread.

i think its unfair to ask people to waste time typing out the information that has already been posted.

for me its a no brainer... buy an IS200 and do the swop along with all the headache that goes with it (unless you want the headache of course) or buy an IS300 and bolt on a tried and tested kit.

youve also gota worry about insurance, im pretty sure you will be paying more for a 200 with a completly different engine than a standard 300 with an 'upgrade'

then theres the problme of selling the car a few years downthe line you limit yorself to a very very limited customer base with the 2jz is200, the 300 cna simply be turned back to standard should you wish to sell..

Guys,

All i need is a list of pro`s n cons

All i know is (i am from holland) the IS200 comes as a 6cil

regul. say 6cil=>6cil no problem insurance goes by catlog prize (new)

So what I need to know is:

When you buy a IS 200 and a GTE engine+tranny+ecu, what else do you need, ive

read until page 10 of the monster thread and all i know is you have to make your own engine mounts. This is hardly a problem.

I am talking about HARD problems to solve, electrics that do not match. dashboard gauges that will not work with gte engine stuff like that.

Will i need a aftermarket EFI system right away??

Can the stick ***** be fit in a autom. chassis, does the 300 have a LSD and a 200 does not. things like that. suspension differences, i already know the brakes of the 200 are smaller.

Is there already a manual in PDF format . stuf like that.

Maybe we should make a swap reference guide here!! Like on WWW.CLUB4AG.COM for all swaps poss. with 4ag engines.

Parts list to buy for swap.

About me,

Yeah my first 4 cars where AE86`s :)

And yes i am looking for a follow up.

I am looking for a RWD for drifting needs :-) with lots of power (and control)

Ow and eh, my wife is gonna drive the car to work on a daily basis :)

So i am a DRIVER not a 1/4 mile junky

Reason for looking at Lexus IS200/300:

4 doors hahahah

RWD, and japanese made, so it will last

Looks

Toyota quality

And last but not least is not a german car :)

So if any of you can teach me the LEXUS knowledge i need to make a choice

YOUR WELCOME !!!

may i suggest you read on then...from Page 10 as the engine mounts you Make are dictated by which year and revision GTE engine block you get.

the is200 has the SAME brakes as the is300 so straight away what you assumed as fact is infact wrong, the is200 also has an LSD if its a sport, whereas the Auto IS300 DOES NOT!!, more infactual facts.....

the electrics are very much a pain, and yes the dash electrics will not work withoutt serious rewireing, the speedo wont work, the rpm wont work, and the aircon wont work.

This is why i said read the Monster thread, ok its not a 1,2,3 of doing a conversion, but it has enough points and facts within it to point you in the right direction.
