Good Tyre Price?!?

Hey guys,

I just got a quote for 2 new tyres on my standard IS SE alloys.

£219.xx (can't remember the pennies) for 2xDunlops Hard compound, fitting, valve, balance and Alignment check (if it is out it's £20 to rectify)

Just wondered if that sounds good, bad indifferent to you lot?

A certain fitter you cant get better than wanted £160 per piece for the same tyre!?!?! :flaming:

I used a tyre place for wheel alignment but they couldn't fix the castor angle as it is not adjustable. Lexus fixed the problem with new shocks under warranty but also said the alignment target settings/ranges on the print-out from the tyre place were wrong! The ones on the lexus print-out were different/correct so you're right not to trust non-lexus!

what tyres do you guys run with?

I've just picked up a 2nd hand sport with Dunlops on and I have to say I ain't too impressed.

I woz running Goodyear Eagle F1s on my old car and they were fantasic.

Anyone used them on an IS200?

As for getting Lexus to do the alignment, I always used a specialist tyre place for tyres on the Subaru and never had any trouble. So, I'll be sticking with them. If you find somewhere you trust it counts for a lot

I am running Dunlop's on the front, which seem to be fine. I couldn't get the dunlops when the backs needed replacing so I went with BF Goodrich, certainly had no probs with them, although the profile seems to be a bit larger on them?!? Maybe just my eyes, or the fact that my fronts are now in desperate need of changing ;)

Hey guys,

Just to let you know i eventually got round to replacing my tyres, hmm had to do all four after a blow out last night though! :(

Anyway - went to a Protyre centre, about £50 cheaper than all other quotes for the Dunlops - but I went for some Falcerns.

Yes I was sceptical too - but i have done 100 miles so far, fairly quiet and no noticeable difference to handling. All in inclusive of balance and alignment £298! thank you very much!

Thought i'd let ya know - and if i get any probs with them i will too.

Oh yeah - as for the blow out, BF Goodrich, blew the tyre into 3 pieces! (only about 6000 miles old):flaming:

I went through my OEM tyre's from new in about six months. I can't remember what brand they where (Potenza's I think), fantastic grip in the dry, s**t in the wet, and a tad too soft for everyday use.

I changed all four (front tracking screwed, although I'd only caught a couple of pot holes), for sport Conti's. If they're good enough for standard fit on Porsche's, they're good enough for me. A certain fitter you can't get better than fitted them for £484 (£1 * 4 crome valve covers - very nice :D), although they did start at £600 I managed to get them down in price.

I found that the dunlops at £126 V rated above 150mph were a hard compound which meant they stuck to the road like a knob of butter on a hot knife. and they didn't wear very well either.

I just bought these, VENTUS K102 225/45 ZR17 W MFS basically a V/W grade ultra-high performance tire.Aggressive uni-directional 'V' shaped lateral groove enhances steering stability as well as lateral drainage, and minimizes whirling resistance.HKs new silica compound and TCT (Trapezoid Contour Theory) profile technology applied to enhance lateral stiffness for better handling on wet and dry road.

I've done 4K on them already, and I would say I'm not very kind to tyres, on previous cars I usually get through a set in 6-8k or 2 sets a year. They have very good grip to the road much better than the dunlop, and they are wearing very well. with no road noise which I got with the dunlops aswell. you can see them on mytyres.net they are £77 each which includes vat and shipping, I got them balanced and fitted from a local tyre garage for £32 I saved over £200 not using the lexus garage, and have in my opinion a much better tyre that I am confident will not slip on corners like the dunlops did) plus I can't spin the wheels anymore from a standinTextg start which it did all the time with dunlops.

I spoke to Micheldever askinf for quotes - they were actually more expensive than Station Tyres (even though both are part of Protyre now?!?),

Falkens are a very good budget tyre. I used to have Falkens on one of my old cars and they were excellent. I have Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's fitted to mine at the moment and I have never got them to lose traction yet even with the T/C off. They seem to be wearing very well too. Toyo Proxes T1-S's are the ones to have though.

My local Lexus dealer don't do tyres etc just take them down to a local tyre centre. I think tracking alignment as well. Remember a tyre specialist only does this sort of work and therefore should have the best specialist kit to do it where as a dealer will only do it occassionaly - so will they spend the money on the kit?
