Is 200 Rear Spk Replacement

I have just purchased a pair of Infinity 6 by 9 oval speakers to replace the factory fit version. I hav'nt got a clue how to take the old ones out ,as it appears that they have to be taken out from the top which involves taking the covers of first. I have spoken to my local Lexus dealer who says that the rear seats have to be removed ? This seems a bit excessive to me. Any ideas welcome.

ok its a big job but not hard,the seats do need removing..........here goes

1.remove seat base,pull up ends to reveal bolts

2.remove seat back,bolts at the bottom,lift up at the top(yank hard)

3.remove rear "C" pillar covers,just pull off

4.remove the rear deck cover,remember the wires are connected to the brake light

5.disconnect brake light wires

6.the rear speakers can now be removed,cable connections are underneath

7.when reconnecting the wires,dont use all 4 wires the speakers will sound crap,just use the mid or high spker wires

fitting is reverse of removal

oh by the way the speakers will not be a direct fit,the IS200 speakers sit in a cradle which is slightly larger than 6x9 :ph34r

Wow, thanks for the quick respones to my query. Will the spks i have still fit in the original holes,or will I need spacers? I thought I read that the originals were 6 by 9's? I wish it would stop raining,so i can get cracking.

yes they will fit.......,you may need to drill some extra holes in the deck,bt this really depends on the speakers being fitted...............

Hey, I'm new here - bought my is200 about two weeks ago!! Best car i've owned by FAR!!!! already done a few mods (tasteful, ofc) - took on the task of changing the 6x9s and found it to be very easy! if not a little fiddly! now have a pair of MDF mounted speaks sitting snug!

The lower half of the rear seat literally just pulled out of two clips at the front, and two at the back, very easy. The rear of the seat, 4 bolts that took no time to undo

Only problem I had was pulling the tray too far and snapping the brake light bulb housing, thought it had more give than it did, easy fix but be careful not to pull it out too far before you disconnect it!! also reaching the screws nearest the rear windows was tricky, putting a small piece of packing foam between the socket wrench and the window stopped the tint from being scratched.

Great mod, sounds good - and useful to know how everything fit together back there!

did you make the mdf inserts yourself? im lazy and am trying to find somewhere or one where i can buy them?
