Urgent Help With Safety Problem Is200

Recommended Posts

I have a 1999 IS200 automatic from new and currently has 27000 miles on the clock. March 2004 the car started to rev whilst idle at junctions, requiring me to exert pressure on foot brake to prevent car from moving forward. Having taken the car to Lexus Norwich they were unable to find a fault but changed the throttle sensor. All has been fine until now when the problem happened again four times in one journey, the final time very alarming when I was stationary at a pedestrian crossing when the engine rose from idle to 3100 revs and it was all I could do to hold it with the foot brake. Having engaged neutral the engine rose to 6500 revs and then retured to idle. The car is now with Lexus Norwich who can find no fault, has anybody had the same problem or any ideas?

Have you checked the floor mat is anchored down? I had this happen when the mat came loose and moved forward onto the accelerator.

Thats what I was going to say. Check to see if your floor mat has a hole and a hole to secure it to a plastic hook on the floor.

I did check that the mat was not causing the problem. The mat was modified by Lexus in the first year and is now held by a metal hook.
