I'm not 100% sure but I think you can take all the relevant paper work to your closest dvla centre, and I think they can do it over the counter for you, as they will need to stamp the old mot with new reg and issue you with a replacement tax disc

Thats exactly what I did when I put a personal plate on my car. All done over the counter. :D

When you take in your original MOT they will just write in your new registration mark and stamp it.

When you go for your next MOT they just fill registration mark with your new reg.
