New Is (250 & 220d)

Recommended Posts

Guys, just seen this (pompted by Saracen's remarks on good quality of the paint)...

http://www.chipguard.com/search.asp?make=L...=2006&Submit=Go

Has anyone ever tried these? On a trip to the states, I noticed "Bra's" on so many cars (i.e. black plastic lips on the bonnets of 4x4 or tied on PVC).

These look good and are different - clear plastic/film...and there is one for the new IS!!

Not tried them - but the IS 300 ones seemed to get good write up's on the US my.is forums (although the darker the colour the more noticeable the "lines"). BTW Do the UK/Jap spec IS250's have the exact same bumper size as the US ones? I know that UK and US IS300's had very different bumper sizes because of US saftey regs.

I don't like the thick black plastic protectors you see on a lot of vehicles in the States as they are ugly and attract a lot of crap around the sides. These as you say are a lot different, and look by the photographs to be a lot less obvious.

However, just over £300 quid for the full set seems a lot of dosh for plastic film, and reading between the lines it looks like a specialist job to fit, rather than something a first timer could do. :eerrrmm:

If it's anything like those normal "bra" things, I would avoid it. I have read numerous stories on American websites where the car "sweats" underneath the bra and can completely discolour. There is more work involved in having one of these bra's than you think, you have to remove it every so many weeks to let the car breathe, polish it, and wax it anyway. I have seen pictures where mildew built up around the edges of the bra and basically became part of the paintwork, so when it was removed so was some of the paint.

If you want my advise, just keep up the cleaning, polishing, and waxing. :winky:

Poor woman...

I think you're right...lots of fettling and rubbing instead... :shutit:

Seriously, a solution that you can clip on and remove and still be un-noticeable would make the inventor millions...

Have seen these used on cars on other forums and the people swear by them. Normally you can't see them unless you get within a few incles of the panel. The material is made by 3M "3M Paint Protection Film contains four highly resistant layers in every coating that is applied. 3M offers the best paint protection there is, against stone chipping for your automobile. "

If you are going to keep the car and you like it looking sweet well worth doing. Especially with the quality of some paint ;)

It's really good stuff for lighter coloured metallic or pearl finishes, but on black you can see the join a mile off!
