Autobox Problems When Cold

Hi

I have a 1998 GS300 with 106K miles

If the car is not used for a few days, the drive take up by the autobox

is very slow, ie the engine revs but the car moves (frontwards and reverse)

very slowly. This problem dissappears as soon as the box manages to change gear by itself.

Gearbox oil level appears ok (probably slighltly overfilled if anything)

Has anyone any ideas ?

change the fluid and make sure Toyota T-IV fluid is used is recommended although it sounds like the fluid is draining out of the torque convertor when stationary.

How are you checking the fluid level? The vehicle should be driven for at least 15 minutes, move the selector through all positions slowly and back to Park and then check the level, whilst the engine is running.
