Is The Altezza Ok On Standard 95ron Unleaded

Can the ECU compensate enough for the lower RON - or will an import run on 95 fuel have problems with pinking?

I know some high performance jap-mobiles should only ever be run on super (Evos and Skylines), but not sure about the Tezza

not really.....should be run on an absolute minimum of 97

Interseting point this.

I spent ages trying to get my mechanic to solve a pinking issue with my Mk1 GS which was I ran initially on standard unleaded.

I tried higher octane unleaded and the pinking is no longer evident and I find that there is no appreciable difference in fuel cost.

I try and run 97 or above when I can

has been the odd occasion when I've not found a petrol station with such fuel,

1 of the problems with the country side

never noticed any real difference in mileage or performance tho

but I don't do a regular run in the car anyway

red diesel, not a problem :winky:

I always fill up with 99 RON, on the odd occasion that I have had to use 95 I can't say that I have had any pinking problems. Reckon that the ignition will retard enough to avoid that so don't think that you will cause any damage you just won't get the most out of the engine.

Unfortunately mine has to run on 95 as there is nothing else........:crybaby:

That's an excelent point - Ireland is packed with Altezza (well maybe not, but there seem to be more than here), and there isn't a systematic problem over there.

Maybe it would be fair to say that the engine doesn't run at it's best with 95, but the ECU can retard ignition enough to prevent damage.

i dont see a problem. In hk .. most stations serve 91 and up (to around 97). We dont even get 99 here in hk. Arguable, hk has one of the largest tezza markets outside of japan. Most of my other club members put in shell superunleaded which is 94 (i think) in hk and dont have an problems. (and considering its hot as hell here, and these guys defo pushin the limits of the car)

Also the standard ECU is set to run a bit rich at higher RPM to be on the safe side.

I live in barbados and we have horse ***** for gas. i drive an rs200 and get no pinging...although i am seeing some knocking now that i switched to a standalone ecu. the standard ecu seems to retard enough although performance is also retarded. the car runs extremely rich up top....like 12s and 11s. adding mods like sports filters etc makes it worse.
