Gs300 To Ls400 Then Back Again !

Recommended Posts

Used a friends 95 GS 300 Sport around a year or so ago...did a thousand miles over a few months...thought it was awesome...smooth quiet power and looked fantastic too...a couple of months after that I finally got my 96 LS 400 and drove it back from the dealers around 200 miles and then spent the next few months gradually doing all the fluid changes etc that are detailed on this excellent site...four new D8Zs etc...oh and the best bit...fed the leather with that Angel juice stuff called Gliptone...I have done around 9000 miles in the last 10 months in the LS as my only car...anyway I got my friends GS300 back to do some jobs on and use it for a week or so...took it for a drive around and could not believe the noise, lack of power and little squeeks and rattles...please don't take offense all the GS owners...it is still a fantastic car...plus easily one of the best looking cars on the road and I would gladly own one...but after the LS I am utterly ruined...just got so use to the zero effort and sheer "drive" of the car...makes me wonder what I will ever get to replace it one day...it's going to be hard to better it for the money...maybe a GS430 one day...get the looks and that awesome V8 ?....Again NO offense to the GS guys...just my own experience :tomato:

I understand completely. Ran a Golf GTi Mk2 for 13 years. Meanwhile, my wife bought a new V5 Golf auto, which I called "The Limousine". About a year into my LS400 ownership, I had occasion to drive this "limo" again. Oh dear me. I now call it the "Buzz Bomb".

You probably won't better it - remember, an LS costs around twice as much as a GS, and is Lexus' flagship machine.

Maybe a Mk.IV if you fancy a change, otherwise why bother?

I find myself in the same position. The LS was so effortless to waft around in, and so well made, that a GS feels substandard in comparison. The LS and GS are like night and day. I truly believe we are extremely fortunate to have sample LS ownership.

Then again, go sit in a poverty spec 5 series or E class, and you will smile when you get back into your GS.

I'm saving desperately for a Mk4 now ;-)

Hi moriwaki,

I know where your coming from with the GS and LS.

I went from a mk1 LS400 to a mk1 Aristo (Mk1 GS300,but with Twin Turbos :D ) i found the Aristo alot quicker then the LS and better on fuel, but you notice the build quality is better with the LS.

I found the brakes are better on the Aristo than the LS,but i did have the LS model with the early small brake discs.

I think if i do change cars id also go for a mk4 LS400.

chips..
