I have noticed it beeping a few times in the most unusual of places and was wondering what other equipment it could actually detect ie. could cctv set it off even though i think this is unlikely.

Anyone else found this?

CCTV no... other k-band etc, yes.

As for laser detectors - waste of time, once you detect it, your caught, no simple way around it!... I did a post on here ages ago explaining the divergence of lasers used in teh LTI20-20 etc to show that the beam was still fairly small by the time it hits your car (usualy the number plate is the target).

Basicaly... waste of time....

Best bet is GPS based warning and eyes being peeled ;)

Thanks mate. I have my subscription due for the road angel. Waste of time or something good to have?

It's a personal opinion of mine that they are a waste of time, however, some like them as a safety guard against the capture by the plod..... me personaly, I go by GPS based systems and ignore laser detectors etc... in my professional opinion there a waste of time (radar is not use on anything other than single lane roads, laser = see the points in my original post.)...

oh and by the way.....

UP THE BORO :) :D

???? A1, A406, A505, M25 (variable limit), end of M11 southbound (rumored to be the one that makes the most money in the UK) to name a few multi lane roads that use radar based cameras.

No.... you are talking about cameras as in detector and camera. I was refering to hand held detection, there is no proper sighting on a radar "gun" (well there is, but it isnt as good as that on say a LTI20-20) so to differentiate between which car in which lane is a lot harder than with a (lidar) laser based "gun".

The equipment used within gatsometer and similar is more aligned and has the road markings for the secondary evidential measurement. It is also rear facing, so what's the point in detecting something that's either:

a. going to be behind you;

b. risidual signal strength remaining from reflections is so week that you should have already seen the camera before the detection.

I still stand by my statement, personally, radar and lidar detectors are a waste of time :)

I've disconnected my Road Angel (first gen) laser detector. It definitely works as fortunately the only time it has beeped is when approaching those dumb speed reading signs.

As previously stated, if it beeps from detecting a mobile unit it's too late to do anything anyway (if you're over the limit that is).

So as it just looks untidy and is no help I've removed it. Still swear by the Road Angel GPS unit though!
