Stupid Lexus Mats

Took out a friends IS200 earlier to get the tyres changed and was in for a shock

Pulled off and got about 200 yards and the accellerator got stuck in the middle of town!... totally revved the nuts out of it so i rolled to the side of the road and turned off the engine...

Feeling the accelrator with my foot i could feel that it was stuck to the floor!

So.. i investigate under the bonnet and all seems fine...

Then relaised that the stupid mat (foot mat.. not our mate mat!) got in the way.. felt a right nawny!

Why are the mats on the IS so crummy? They dont have clips!

Very red faced when everyone was walking past sniggering! (this cannot happen to me!!!!! Would not have minded if it was an escort!):angry::blush:

I have very deep carpets in my motor... really nice.

Had a good afternoon with the stereo though... the system is awesome... very clear and has a really good bass. I hope my uplgrade will sound like that!

hmm will check that out next time... bloody dangerous! Reminds me of my old mkII Escort and the rolling coke can under the brake pedal!

I have the IS for 4 weeks in January! Put the old barge into dry dock!

I have got rather attached to an auto though!

Mine's a 99 (T) model and it has mats with the clip to hold it in place on the drivers side. Mine also has never come loose whilst driving.

Have you had the car from new? Are they the original mats? As I mentioned dealers were supposed to change the mats but they should have told you if they did.

I'm the second owner of my car. I've had it for approx 6 months. The car mats with the clip was already fitted. I guess the previous owner had the original mats replaced.

I choked at the thought of paying the £95 +VAT for a set of Lexus mats and so got a set custom made for less than half the price :D

However the fixing clip for these was very poor and different to the Lexus arrangement and I too have been looking a prat in town when the throttle has stuck. :crying:

I popped down the dealer the other day to get a new clip but they don't sell just the clip. They did however advise me of the car mat recall scheme and gave me a new set of front mats which include the clip!! :) :D :)

Seems daft that you can't get the clip seperately but fitted the new set of mats today and the arrangement looks much more firm :yahoo:

This happened to me at the Scottish Open Road Event in 2001, we were driving along quite happily in the IS200 (my mate was driving it), we were about 300 yards from a T-junction and I could see him start to panic and saying the accelerator was stuck! I told him to behave and slow down, but soon I was panicing as the car was absolutely stinking and reving hard. We stopped and discovered the mat caught up in the accelerator.

We had a laugh about afterwards, but this is a serious problem. I remember one of the first road tests I read on the IS back in 99 mentioned this as a potentially serious problem.
