Flat Spot?

Is any one finding a flat spot / lack of power in the IS 220d?

I've had my car for 2 months and had it back to Lexus twice. I don't think its turbo lag but pulling away from stop, traffic lights, roundabouts, junctions etc is a nightmare. Once its moving, over 2500 revs it takes off like a rocket into the rear of the car in front!

Have tried "superdiesel" to no avail.

Am only getting 29mpg round town.

Could it be a faulty engine management system?

I am having a similar experience but the lag is not to 2500 revs. The initial pull off (especially when warm and the idle revs have dropped) is sluggish but I am also not giving it the full monty yet as the car has only done 600 miles. This lag only lasts to about 1400 revs when the turbo is starting to spool up and the car picks up speed nicely. As you point out above though, the inherent turbo diesel trait of ...wait....wait...wait...bang, full turbo!! does catch me out a bit as well as the power suddenly arrives in one go. I think max torque is from 2000 so it should be flying by then.

Might be worth trying a demonstrator car to compare. Make sure it's a later build one as the engines seem to be different as the earlier threads show consumption of about 33mpg average and rough feeling and I'm up at the 40 mark with not a lot of distance driving and the engine is all but silent and really smooth.

If there is a difference then you may be able to get the management system re-flashed with the latest software to fix any fuelling problems you might have.

Rich.

Hi,

The flat spot is still there but I'm getting used to driving with it! If I put some revs on before letting the clutch out, rather than letting the revs fall right back during a gear change, it pulls no trouble! My Audi TDi did not have this issue, it just pulled all the way through the rev range. Lexus say they are unaware of this problem but will look into it.

They have also modified the gate in the gear box - a fault which they are aware of in the earliest cars - so I can now change gear using only 1 hand!!

Will update as necessary.
