Differential Oil Type ?

My Altezza has LSD and it is recommended to use Toyota Hypoid gear oil ( api.GL-5, sae 85w-90)..

needs 1 litre..

Well tried my Toyota dealer today and they don't sell it.... What they use comes in barrels so ....I ain't getting some....

Tried a few other specialists and they have the equivalent gear oil but gallons only...

Local motor factors have an 80w/90 gear oil ( Protex plus) which they say should be fine....

Is it better to use this or leave whats already in the differential in ?

Hi, I have spoken about diff oil changes to a couple of grease monkeys and a auto parts supplier. All seem to reckon it doesent need changing for at least a couple of hundie Ks. Have you been told otherwise? Sorry Im no help to your question. Cheers.

Thanks anyway..... just as the car was a jap import i decided to give it fresh fluilds all over.....

The differential being the Torsen type dosen't need a special LSD specific fluid, so we put in 85w/90 gear oil (api -5) and that should be fine...

As for when to change it again....... I found out offically it should be replaced every 30,000 km......

hope this helps :)
