I have a new model GS300. Tonight the displaty said I had 0 miles left of fuel in the tank. The nearest petrol station was 2 miles away and of course I made it there. I then filled up with £59.60 of unleaded. I wonder how far I can go when it says ) miles left?!

By the sound of things, you may have had another gallon or 2 still left in the tank if you only put £60 in from empty

When I fill up from the empty, can normally put about £68 - £70 in, about 70Ltres worth, tank cap is 75 Ltres, can normally get about 60 - 80 miles when the light appears

if the fuel computer work the same way as the GS series II then it calibrates itself based how much fuel you put in and the mileage covered. If you only ever let it get to 0, fill up and there is 10 litres left in the tank it will always read 0 when 10 litres are left. If you continue to empty the tank it will be more accurate the next time.

Basically a rubbish system.

The "old" mk2 GS300 has a float sensor in the tank, so when the little light lights up depends on the amount of fuel left in the tank. The display reading of miles-to-go-to-calling-out-the-RAC-to-look  depends ends on previous driving history and some solid vapour for good measure. Wouldn't look good for any car manufacturer if "empty" really meant empty.
