Subj: [lexus-forum] 2003 RX300 air cond. condenser- stone impact problem

Date: Tue, 06 Jun 2006 00:31:29 -0000

From: ltcheimmel@yahoo.com

----------------------------------------------------------------

Vehicle had lost freon over time and dealer indicated cause was a hole in

condenser coil resulting from "road impact" from stone. Lexus service advisor

at DiFeo Lexus told me these commonly occur 1-2X's per week; service

manager indicated they occur 1-2X's per month; given I do all my business

there the dealer did not charge me labor to replace condenser unit and sugg.

I contact Lexus "Customer Care". After much debate and a long wait they

offered to pay 50% of cost of part ($509.08 total cost for condenser assy.). I

asked if they could recommend a deflection type screen to prevent this from

occuring in future, but they refused to make a recommendation. Has this

problem occurred to any other Forum readers? Also, I am considering

placing a 1/8 to 1/4" hardware screen over the coil to prevent future stone

impact. Any suggestions on this?

Dave
