Please Help

I am trying to paint my rear calipers today. My drive is on a slope, so i have put the handbrake on and left it in 1st gear, but now when i have raised the car and taken the nuts off i can't get the wheel off. Is it because the handbrake is still on? If i take it off will it still be safe to leave it in gear and it won't roll away?

might not be much help to you but when they changed my tyres at the station last month they just jacked it up (with the handbrake on) to change the tyre so I cant see it being the handbreak on as the issue

No, it's not because of the handbrake - it's probably corrosion between the alloy wheel and the steel hub.

Try hitting the wheel around the edge with a soft mallet (or just kicking it) to break the bond. Be careful if it's just on the jack - chock the other wheels.

Smear a small amount of copper-slip grease on the mating face when you refit the wheel.

It'll just be stuck to the hub. Give it a good tap from behind with a wooden or rubber mallet. Leave it in gear with h/b on for safety, even better use a set of axle stands.

I dont have an IS so dont know PRECISELY, but, a handbrake should not prevent a denutted wheel coming off. If it were mine, I'd put the nuts back on a couple of turns to hold the wheel when it comes lose and just give it a good whack, its probably corroded onto the hub.

If you hit the tyre - be careful of 'bounceback'!!!!, if you hit the wheel, be careful to us a pice of wood so's not to damage it!!!

Success :D . 2 big kicks did it. First coat of paint is drying as i type :D
