Laughable Trade In Values...

Recommended Posts

as you may be aware, i'm looking for a replacement...

but i have gotten so many laughable trade-in values...

I've had a couple of 'decent' offers on whats its worth, but the main have been close to offensive, unless of course, the IS has depreciated over a grand in a week :lol:

The problem being, im getting these crappy offers on cars I want (and its not like were talking cheap cars here!) and the good offers on cars that, well, are less than perfect..

There is of course, the private sale, but seeing as im living alone, and ive had a few sniffs that have come to nothing, that isnt looking positive (especially with having to travel to find a good example of what im after)

at this rate, im going to be with the IS for a while longer :shifty:

no offense to you Ian but everyones expectations are almost allways higher than what you get offered

if you had them queuing up at your door to buy your car it would be a different story

what are the dealers offering ?

the most plus £500 is what in reality it would sell for privately

i have noticed a lot of IS`s for sale recently, and obviously the more choice people have the more they will want for their money

what has living on your own got to do with it, unless your offering them a date as well

i accept that bazza...

I'm well aware people generally have an inflated view of the value of their car, ive priced mine as a fair asking price with room to move..

put it like this, one place offered me 5k against a 30k car...

now fair enough if thats the going value, but other places have offered from 6k to 7k against a car worth much less, which is much closer the 'real' value (im well aware of the glass's valuation)

The irony is, of course, the car i really want is the one with the worst trade in..

as for living alone, well, it just adds a complication, as if my car goes, im walking from then on... and im not shopping for a Ford Focus here...

The other thing is that the whole deal will be taken into consideration by your seller. So he may have got the £30k car you want at a cost price which is worse than some of the others...

This is why you get the "Cost to change" routine mentioned a lot, though in reality unless you're buying a Brand new car it can mean nothing...no 2 used cars are the same...

Is it as I assume a 2nd hand car you're buying?

I've always found the "What Car?" trade in values are closest to what you'll get, minus a couple of hundred squids.

And the final nailer is that because the old IS is not in as high a demand as other cars (and possibly the one you want to buy) you get hit with slowish demand and a dealer based bias...especially when the new model is out too.

Good luck...

yeah, its a used car, and of course, im shopping privately/specialists rather than main dealers... so they have to sell my car on... which is a problem..

and sods law it is, oh well, with this weather maybe i should shop for a convertible!

Summer is a slow time for used car sales (apart from convertibles). My suggestion would be to get rid of the IS sooner rather than later. The value of your IS will only go in one direction..DOWN!

no.

Sods law is all of the above, plus it being 8 grand over budget.

and my mate just giving it the once over and telling me what a good buy it is...
