Does anyone out there custom-build PC's?

I have a friend who is an animator / graphic designer who is looking for such a machine. I'll be able to get the required specs by tomorrow. No monitor/printer etc, just the box of tricks.

Looks like we'll be going out to tender then :winky:

lol.

Depending what you're after, it aint necessarily (much) cheaper than buying from main suppliers like Dell... which will come with warranty and what be it... But I guess it aint much use if your sending the box half way around the world.

Got a spare PC already built if you want it? Not super fast like, but more than adequate for most things...

Doesn't have to be exactly these specs, just close enough to build a similarly powerful machine. The user runs a lot of power hungry graphic design & video editing software and wants this performance  :D

Ideal use of an apple Mac then Mr Morse :winky:

Mike.

I'm looking in to it but 2 Qs:

1) No idea how to sort out VAT stuff...

2) Who stumps up the £$£$£ for the stuff to beging with?

D.

P.S. As I said, the specs are very precise - how come whoever put the specs together doesn't buy/build themselves? Just wondering as they seem like a PC Pro...

i would buy a dell XPS. If its being used for work you need the warranty.

As far as i know if it is being sold outside of the EU then someone has to pay VAT.

That hard drive just aint gonna be big enough if it's gonna do a lot of Video editing !!

Not at a Gig every 5 and a half minutes for standard resolution DV !! If it's going to house an OS and all the usual rubbish as well as the editing software and the likes of After Effects 250 gig will get eaten very quickly.

If they move into HD editing watch the gigs disappear at an alarming rate !!

Just my two pennyworth

Goods sold outside of the EU, or exported outside the EU do not qualify for VAT :D

Problem is that the purchaser of the components needs to be VAT registered to recover the VAT that the suppliers are obliged to charge, assuming the components are delivered in the EU.

If the completed PC is to be exported it would need to be declared to customs with all the associated paperwork to verify that it has left the EU. An invoice, with no VAT, would have to be raised to the end user with an address in the country it has been exported to and a corresponding payment shown in the companies accounts, to balance the books.

A lot of hassle, easier to just pay the VAT IMHO

This is my mate's shop 1st direct, just click under components for the prices, very handy as a guide.

could get you discount on the stuff, but gonna be a lot of hassle where the vat is concerned.

said he could do it only if the items are being charged to a foreign national, and the goods are being sent to their home address. :D
