Clutch Slip

Hi guys,

If the car (IS200SE) sets off in 3rd gear, is this clutch slip (intermittent on my car - sometimes stalls, sometimes sets off). Occasionally the gear changes feel jerky/car feels underpowered, took to the dealer 3 times for testing and they say it passed every time?

Also, is this the correct way to test?

Thanks B)

Hi,

Yep by setting off in third you can test for clutch slip.

You can normally tell that the clutch is on its way out if the bite point is very near the top of the pedal.

Try driving up a steep road,(dont pull away in 3rd) if the engine races and your not moving faster then the clutch is slipping.

Chips..

Hey guys,

Ok my cluch aint slipping from what i know but i do have a sound coming from my engine bay, like a whining sound!

Also when the car first starts up i get a jerking sensation when i put my foot down and take it off. Ok i know the cars cold but once it warms up it still does the same. Ive had my head under the bonnet and had a bit play with the throttle wire and it sounds as though its choking when i take the revs off. :duh:

I know this reads very strange but its starting to do my head in and i need to rectifiy it!! :tsktsk:

Cheers Chris
