Replacing Is200 Brakes

Recommended Posts

hi,

i was wondering if you guys could help me?

if i was to get an independent mechanic to fit on my front brakes, but i will obviously get the brakes from lexus.

would that invalidate my warranty? i have like 1 and half years left on it.

because i dont see the need to pay lexus £100 just to fit the brakes, when i can get it done for £20 from my local guy.

i know this guy from before, because my brother has used him before, to put brakes on his civic type-r.

thanks for any help.

even if you buy the pads from elsewhere and get them fitted elsewhere,it cant affect your warranty. They are brakes.someone may know something different, but my warranty was never affected.

I'm due my 30.000 mile service and i know i will need new pads because i checked is it worth me fitting myself to save money then let them do the service as normal?

yes because it is a 1/2 hour job at most and they will charge you for the full hour

come on Gord people everyday pay this kinda amount, especially if they dont have knowledge or have a usual place they go to and its a one off job,but I see your point.Id prefer to pay that rate if im getting tuning done, not basics that any garage can do cheaper.

Ref the brakes

i am having my back ones checked on thursday by Lexus Bham

as i have looked at trying to do them but how do the disc drums come orf

as they have the handbrake shoes inside them

they have quoted around £270.00 to replace rear discs and pads is that good for genuine

cheers

you shouldnt really need to replace the handbrake shoes for a looong time - unless you have been driving about with it on.

The rear brake pads are even easier than the fronts as you dont unbolt the caliper assy - just a pin and a spring to take out.

what makes you think you need the rear discs changing??

on the one side there is a bad lip, and i have fitted new pads on rear as you say very easy

but the new pads are not bedding properly as there is this lip (the old ones i took off were well down on tho wear indicator

As i said i tried to change rear discs but could not get them off

also the car is now on 122k on a 2000 plate x reg (but still as smooth as ever) and i think (or they look original)

i had the fronts done in march and also had a new hub fitted as it was untrue.

so i thought i will now get the rear changed.

Hi all.

I`m in a similar position to matt.My IS200 Sport went for its 40,000 service (£370).Lexus b`ham have said that my front pads are 90/95% worn and need replacing ,and my rear disks are 90% worm ,the disks are the same.

Now after a bit of moaning at them,i`ve had the car for 10 months, done 4000 miles and my brakes are shot concerned me that they were in bad condition originally. They agreed to pay for the rear disks and have priced me at £137 for the front disks and £120 for the rears. The car has still to go back for a cd exchange when one arrives.

Now do i go for the Lexus deal or do i try somewhere else.

Is there any Lexus specialist garages in the west midlands or staffordshire area that anybody has used.

Any advice is most welcome.

Neuty
