Hi,

You may find that the top rubber mounts are worn causing the noise or they might just need tighting up.

In the boot behind the panel you will find where the top of the shocks bolt to the car.

It could also be dry or worn joints with some of the Suspension moving parts, what with all the hot weather causing the sound.

For the sake of £40 id take the car down to a garage and put it through a MOT.

That way you will know whats worn or not, also it will give you peace of mind with your new car.

Thing is it has just gone through an MOT only 2 weeks ago. I spoke to friend last night who works with Skyline imports & he told me that it could be just noisy shocks as Skylines used to come in & have the suspension changed to brand new lowered ones that made clunking noises from brand new ?

Yep, best to get it looked at, as Chips said, could be a few things, especially if you don't know what's been done to the suspension (it's lowered iirc)

From what I can see it still has the standard shocks on the front as the wires still go into the top of the struts but on the back the wires are disconnected as there is no socket for them. Also the rear shocks look different. Your right I will get it checked out. I am pretty sure it has been lowered as it is also a very hard ride I can feel every bump & imperfection in the road.

Hi,

As for the MOT i take it was done before you bought the car.

I got the guy to take the Aristo i bought off him for a MOT before i bought it from him.The car had a Fresh MOT the day i bought it from him only to find when i got home and fully check the car over to find one headlight didnt work (i thought the lights seemed poor driving it home in the dark) and no number plate lights :whistling:

So it seems the guy took it to a garage where he must of knew them ;)

I dont mean to worry you but it sounds strange to have a miss and match of shocks front and rear on your car.

I think the guy I bought the car off had the MOT done by a garage that he knew so they probably did not check it thoroughly. I am going to get it checked in the next few days.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have had the car checked by a local garage. They said all looks ok & agreed that it could just be noisy suspension like yoshi said. They said if I want to find out more then I would need a Lexus Specialist / Suspension Specialist. Anyone point me in the right direction.

Hi,

Id take the garages word for it,its no good chucking more money at having someone else saying the same as the garage. Not many places will look over your car for nothing.

I dont know where abouts you live in the SW but if you fancy coming along to this.

Ive just looked through to find the post and see youve said you might come along :D

I dont mind having alook around your car and giving you my honest opinion.

It would be Cool to not be the only Aristo there ;)

Hope to see you there.
