Transmission - Is It Supposed To Whine?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Went to see my third (last two were rough so didn't bother driving them) and drove it, all suspension seemd OK as this is what everyone says to check, however...

There was a real whine from the transmission but engine sounded fine. Is this normal?

I'm not gona buy it as the climate screen was black, all 4 tyres barely legal, has no history after 110k (done 180k) and power steering was leaking.

pitty as it's a 95 M with the later kit and in the nice silver.

Hopefully the one I'm going to see on wed will be better, but it's older 93 K, and in the red :crybaby: I like the cream leather it has though :) , be spending time inside not outside!.

It shouldn't whine, but as you say it didnt have proper History it's possible that it doesnt have the genuine Toyota transmission fluid in it which is apparently essential even though a few people don't use it.

It's best to get as new with as high mileage according to Toyota and going by the majority of the ones I have seen this is best, high milers have better brakes, suspension and exhausts as they have done motorway miles, low milers tend to be town pottered so everything starts to get a bit tired.

Considering how cheap used LS's are you should be able to find a minter on almost any budget so unless it is exceptionally cheap don't go for anything thats not in superb condition.

Alex, don't rush, you will find a Mark III in you budget, just be patient. There are a couple on autotrader, fsh '95 cars between 2.5 and 3 k within 50 miles of Guildford, probaly the same all over the country?

Hi,

As above, dont rush into buying one.

Its a buyers market at the moment ;) The cars are hard to sale on what with the price of fuel and the size of the engine.

If you find one you like dont be afraid to make them a other.

When i was looking to buy a LS i wanted as new a model mk2 or 3 in the end i went for a mk1 because it had been looked after better than all the others id looked at.

Id go for a car with all service history is poss and looks like its been kept up together and the owner has had the car for sometime ;)

Remember your holding all the cards when buying this model car they are hard to sale on.

Id rather buy one with good mechanics and a dent in the wing or poor paint..You know where you are as to the cost of a respray against a bottom less pity in terms of replacemnt parts.

Again Good Luck.

Chips..
