Hi Everyone

Couple of months ago I thought I would try a Lexus after 8 years of various 5 Series BMW's. I kept my 528i, but bought a cheapie GS300. Sods law I sell the 528i with a view to buying a newer GS, but alas, my cheapie has gone and blown a head gasket... :tomato:

I'm being quoted 18 hours labour inc a skimmed head, the car is worth barely that.

Can anyone help with a good Lexus Independent mechanic in Surrey or South London ?

Or maybe an engine replacement option. Anyone know of a decent RECON LEXUS ENGINE operation ?

Thanks alot

Daren

Hi and Welcome to LOC :)

18 hours labour sounds like alot of labour to me.

As long as the engines not over heated i cant see why the head has to be skimmed

It shouldnt really come to having to have a replacement engine.

How long have you owned the car before you found out that the head gasket had gone?

Maybe the head gasket was on its way out when you bought it

Chips..

Ramsgate is only 90 mins or so from Croydon and Thanet Engine centre will certainly do you a good deal. They reconned my head, replaced plugs and cambelt (easy with the head off) when I thought my valves had burnt out due to my LPG conversion. It was only spark plugs in the end :tomato: .

My beast has since done 6000 trouble free miles in the last 4 or 5 months since it was done.

Have you sorted your problem. If not I can recommend a Lexus specialist in Sutton that would no doubt be able to help you out.

He is very reasonable on rates as he works from his home and is the most knowledgable person on Toyotas/Lexus's that I have ever come accross.

Drop me a PM and I'll pass on his details.
