Factory Alarm Gripe

Recommended Posts

Found a rather frustrating issue with the factory-fitted alarm in the RX400h...

Two scenarios:

1. Leave the windows down and sunroof open... do NOT lock the vehicle. After about half an hour or so, the car doors lock themselves and the alarm arms itself. Of course with the windows and sunroof open, the alarm then sounds a couple of minutes later because of the ultrasonic sensors.

2. As above, but DO manually lock and set the alarm, but pressing the button on the overhead console to disable the ultrasonic sensors. Works fine for half an hour, then the doors DOUBLE lock themselves (similar lines to #1 above) and the Ultrasonic sensors are reactivated ... of course the alarm sounds a few minutes later.

In this hot weather, there are times that I want to actually leave the car open, for obvious reasons -- especially if I'm in the immediate vicinity of the car.

Anyone know how to override the "mind of its own" behaviour?

Leland

I was told when I bought my RX300 that the button to disable the interior sensors doesnt work on UK models - from experience, I have to agree.

I too sometimes wish to leave the roof open in this heat, so hav taken to locking the car with the key only, so the alarm doesnt get set - fortunately I park by the cctv at work :)

I had the same experience when I left the windows and sunroof open and locked the doors. As soon as somebody passed by my car the alarm came on.

On my car RX400h European version with double locking security system) )the following procedure is working:

Pressing the ultrasonic disabling button (if this command is accepted the red security LED flashes fast) the car stays in this mode for a few minutes.

Leave the car and lock it with the wireless (with windows and sunroof open). The red security LED stays on for some time and starts flashing normal.

Now the ultrasonic sensors are disabled. To test it I waited for about 45 minutes but none of the symptoms you described (self double looking and ultrasonic sensors on) happened.

There is another possibility, you could switch of the horn in the security settings (then the alarm is only flashing the lights) but this has to be done with the “Lexus Personalized Settings” and can only be done from your dealer with the diagnosis computer.

What is definitely not working is to leave the doors open. In this case the car is closing the doors after a preset time (time can be changed in the “Lexus Personalized Settings”) and arms the security system.

I received some days ago the European versions of the “Lexus Personalized Settings” from Lexus Europe. If you like to get them please PM me your e-mail address.

regards

I wouldnt relay on that, you dont know if the CCTV is monitored, recorded or even working. Not only that, but all the CCTV will do is alow you to see if you car is still there or not... it wont stop the crooks from wearing a balaclava and nicking the car! :)

The button to disable the interior sensors works on Mine.

When the wife's with me in the car at a petrol station, she asks me to lock her in - if in a dodgy area.

In this heat as well ! ( is that crualty )
