Thanks guys....the Rover weren't bad either! Is 36PSI the same even if its fully laden and taking on the autobahns?

I run 36 psi all the time. Tour brittany every year about 2000 miles, fully laden and found this pressure ok.increased it couple of times but soon returned to 36psi as it seemed to drive sweeter. You may need to increase if your going to be driving at over 110/120 mph

Just look at my posts mate.....the Rover is the bigget pic though!!

Thats weird. I can see where other members have commented on the pics you have included in your posts but they do not show up on my computer. Some of Maneesh's pics also fail to show. There are other pics however which do show up, so I don't think its a wrong setting on my work computer.

Very hit & miss.

Any ideas on the idle speed chaps? I have searched previous posts but most seems to mention uneven idling. Mine just seems a little high in idle....its purrs like a cat!

approx 650/750 rpm.Slightly higher- up to 1100 rpm on cold start but soon decreases. Will also be slightly above 750 rpm with aircon switched on. If youre running high it should be OK after your guy does the service.

Picked up the brake fluid cap from the Main Dealers in Sutton Coldfield. Good friendly service (they called me as soon as it had arrived) and not too badly priced just over a tenner....Saab would have charged £25!

Hi,

Nice pictures, the car looks very clean.

Good Luck with the MOT tomorrow :)

36psi is a good average pressure,im running 18s on my car and run 40psi in the fronts and 36 in the the rear.

It depends on how the tyres wear on your car.

Looks like youve got yourself alot of car for the money and i hope you have a trouble free trip in the next week or so.

Many thanks.....got my fingers crossed about the MOT. Being a part time trader I never usually get too nervous about MOT's but this is the exception due to the consequences if something serious fails and renders Friday's trip in jeopardy!

Car passed the MOT! Not until I had to have the front pads as well as the rears changed and the one front caliper replaced and the other had a new seal kit fitted (other couldn't be repaired due to a scored piston). Total cost including service and MOT.....£475 Which is gutting to someone who would have done all the work himself if it wasn't for time constraints. Missus is taking car to the transmission specialist for a full service. Have noticed the whirring noise I thought was the pads rubbng is still there.....sounds like its coming from under the gearbox....I'm thinking maybe the propshaft? The gearbox drive 100% and there is no variation to the noise as gears change or speed increases so I'm kinda discounting that. Not so noticable once the stereo is playing but it is annoying and a little worrying.

Hi,

Im pleased for you that it went through the MOT :)

I dont knwo if youve read through any posts about the gearbox fluid, but from what ive read they fluid to use is the Toyota/Lexus stuff as the other brands can react with it and cause it to clot.

Like you say it could be the propshaft but im a little lost by the whirring noise,it might be worth getting the diff checked?

Good Luck with your long driving trip :)

Thanks chaps. Wish me and the car luck and I'll hopefully speak to you in three weeks time after having hopefully a troublefree holiday, if you hear from me before then I've obviously had a problem and I've had to use the internet to ask advice! I'm then going to get to the bottom of this noise! Oh and some b*****d has had my soarer griffon badge on the front grille away...might get one of those Lexus ones off eBay presuming they fit straight onto the grille and get it sent to Denmark while I'm over there.

  • 4 weeks later...

Not long back. Car purred like a kitten for the 3000 mile trip. Car is still making that high pitched whirring noise though but it can't be anything serious because it would have shown up on the journey. I have to be honest and say overall I've been a little disappointed by it. I don't think they are all that fast, the seats are not very comfortable at all, the lack of memory on the seats is an annoyance when you've got an other half as small as mine. I think the look of the car is good, the layout of the dash and switches is very nice, Stereo I've been very impressed with. Fuel comsuption has also been very reasonable. Engine has not used a drop of oil or coolant and it passed the 230k mark coming back down the M25. Overall I think Lexus is a great engineered car but I think I'd have an LS-400 next time. I'm so disappointed by the comfort of the seats I'm thinking of selling already. If anyone is interested drop me a line. Please tell me the seats are different in the LS400 and mark two 300.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to us with how the trip went.Hope you had a great holiday.

Yep to be honest i went from a LS400 to my Aristo,i think id have kept the LS400 out of that and a uk GS300.

I think the LS is slightly quicker than the GS,the Aristo on the other hand is a GS300 but with Twin Turbos, thats why i went for the Aristo.

I cant comment on the GS300 seats because i think there leather which mine are not,i find the cloth seats to be ok on my car,i did 1500 miles in a week around Scotland last year and found the seats fine.

The LS seats should be more to your liking. Its only me who drives my car so the memory seats are not a problem.

Chips.

Yeah I had a very relaxed stay.....it's just the coming home thats the disappointment. The seats are leather.....it's a shame I find the seats so uncomfortable because I like the car alot but they just cant compare for comfort with a Big Volvo, Saab or even dare I say a Rover 800 for comfort!
