I thought Lexus had a reputation for reliability... this site seems to think otherwise:

GS300 Reliability

Apparently the average index is 112 and higer is worse.

If you compare the GS to a 5-series BMW you'll see what I mean:

5 Series reliability

What's going on here? Looks like Lexus need to pull their fingers out.

Lexus vs BMW as in all models were actually better. 82.59 BMW 84.95

mileage higher on Lexus avge 57802 vs 50614,age 4.89 vs 4.58

off road time 1.96 vs2.63. also not a single report of engine problem on Lexus.

if you take these in context, the Lexus brand far outperforms the BMW. All these figures are on the site which you provided the link to.

I've had 2 LS400s, 5 LS430s an RX400h and a GS450h.

The only problem I've had with any of them, was the light for the windscreen washer bottle remaining on, fixed under warranty.

Yeah, there's no doubt that Lexus generally are reliable - and the IS200 result probably helps them there - but the GS300 seems a bit of an anomaly. I suspect the suspension and interior rattles have pulled things down a bit - I've not had any real problems with mine but seeing a result like that makes me wonder!

According to this site our Citroen Xsara has a reliability rating of 33.7 - way better than Lexus but this seems to contradict JD Power and general knowledge.

That said our's bar a few minor niggles is still going strong and has never let us down - (touch wood as off to Bournemouth for a fortnight in the caravan on Saturday) - I've probably jinxed myslef now.
