Alloy Wheels......

Recommended Posts

Rather than watchdog - I'd consider using the AutoExpress people. They always have a weekly section on car owners having 'problems' Seems when AutoExpress get involved everthing seems to sort itself out. :yahoo: To be honest, I wouldn't expect to see Lexus appearing in that section - hopefully it won't come to that and they see the light of day !

Had same thing with Sept 99 car Lexus said should have been changed before car was 3 years old,was already 3 years old when i bought it. CJ Coatings in Grimsby are going to powder coat them for £160 including taking of tyres and refitting.

On the same subject my wheels are now pitted badly (car was brand new Jan 2001, now done 35,000 miles). I rang Lexus Ipswich today and told them about my wheels and the guy said something about 'refurbishment' and that he would get someone to ring me back tomorrow about it.

I hope they're not going to be annoying about this.

My understanding is that this is a common problem and that Lexus should replace them - how pushy have any of you lot had to be to get them replaced?

Well today I had mine replaced (35k miles), they also fitted my new tyres (F1 GSD3's) and did a wheel alignment.

New wheels look very nice - my old ones had a lots of dark spots in the lacquer but they were nowhere near as bad as the pic in the other thread.

Only downside was waiting 12 weeks to get em.

bloofire - I didn't have to push at all; just mentioned the problem at the 30k service and when I picked the car up they said "We've had a look at them and ordered a set of replacements".

I spoke to Paul at Ipswich about mine too.

He's gonna see what he can do ... they're quite scuffed unfortunately.

He mentioned something about if damaged more than 25% of circumference,

they may be rejected or a 'betterment' payment required.

I'm dropping my car off tomorrow and they're having it all next week.

20k service + a whole bunch of warranty jobs.

That's free storage while i'm on holiday :)

Thanks Tony/Lexicon.

Have you had a good experience with Lexus Ipswich so far Tony?

Whenever I have rung up there never seems to be anyone working there! They always have to get someone to call me back, and that someone always says that they are just covering for someone else who isn't there!

Anyway I am going to chase them up today about it.

My wheels have all been curbed a little bit - but no more than a 2 inch bit on each wheel - do you think that will be alright?

I had a small amount of kerb damage on two of my wheels - they never mentioned it, but it was very minor.

Depends on the opinion of the dealer I think - a colleague of mine had quite a lot of kerb damage on all four wheels after 2.5 yrs and 50k, but they were replaced no problem.

My warranty for the Lexus IS200SE is up at the end of March. My car has 14000 miles on the clock. The wheels have just started to become pitted with corrosion setting in during the past 3 mths. I went back to my dealer today (10thFeb)who immediately booked the car in for a full wheel change on 24th Feb with a free courtesy car thrown.

They will be in later in the week.

Should be interesting - I was quoted "3 to 4 weeks" in November, they arrived last week (11 weeks later).

Good luck anyhow.

Well you never know but i did qualify it by asking when exactly - he said this week - i shall wait and see.

I wonder if they'll throw in 4 new tyres?!!!

More great news!

Lexus Ipswich called today and my replacement wheels are in and are being fitting on monday afternoon!!!!

Loving it!

Must have ordered a job lot ... they did mine Friday.

Contacted me in France to sort and advise i needed new tyres ...

My supplier kindly dropped 4 x B/stone S03 Pole Positions to the dealer ..

who has obviously plopped them on refurbed wheels.

Dealer said he couldn't buy tyres for the price i did, let alone sell them :)

So now i just wait to see if i get charged for the refurbed wheels.

Hopefully not but mine were pretty scuffed in places.

Hi All,

Just come out of an E class Merc to a new Lexus, why didnt I do it years ago  Anyway for what its worth whilst talking about alloys I would like to reccommend a product I bought about 6 months ago. Alloy wax is the product name and I think the company is Toughseal (?), anyway its a PTFE Teflon Polymer that works realy well on stopping brake dust from sticking to the wheels and it does a great job and makes them sooooo easy to clean. Their website was at http://www.alloywheelwax.co.uk I gave the company a call and got a discount of £3 per bottle :D and sent a cheque direct, give it a try they may do the same. Chat soon
