Having got a DVD based IS sat nav system. If I had the choice again, I would definately go for a normal IS200 and then an aftermarket GPS sat nav system. eg tomtom, garmin etc - they are leaps and bounds above the IS system.

I think its possible, picture just needs a RGB convertor (or something), audio is a bit more complex but if you don't mind using an FM modulator, should be quite straightforward.

If its a 99 model, yeah it'll be the CD nav and you'll have the bottom slot CD player (which means check it works fine before you buy it).

I don't know about the CD nav, but with the DVD nav I have, I wouldn't personally swap it for the portable ones, they simply aren't quick enough around central london - but if you don't drive around many heavily built up areas, it should be fine :)

What you mean dude? eg tomtom has full postcode search, 'drivers perspective view', full POIs, the ability to add speed camera databases. You know yourself, the lex DVDs are around £150 a pop to upgrade, even then there out of date. The only thing going for the lex system, is the neat OEM look with foldable screen and the fact you can use the screen to do a carputer like Ahmet.

Yeah mate, totally agree about functionality, the Tomtoms do way more (some even have Bluetooth don't they?) but as a pure navigation device, I've found that they're a bit slow. When you're in central london where the roads are always quite close together, if you drive quite quick, its always a turn or two behind you, which isn't great when you're not sure where you're going.......

Personally if I did it again I'd have one of those Pioneer double din headunits, but that's prob just as expensive, so its more because its an awesome piece of kit :winky:

Yea my tomtom 500 has Bluetooth. Hmm, can't say I've had a problem like you mention, but I've heard some devices do this, even the lex! :P I don't really rely on the 'voice' and go by the map most of the time, so I know where I'm going even if in a rush :whistling:

You can only upgrade the cd based systems with cd's not dvd's. The older IS's have bottom loading radios, the newer ones were top loading.

Try getting one slightly newer than a 99 if you can.
