M3 ......

Well the man has spent a lot of money on mods that wont even touch that car so why not just go for that type of car.

Took an evo FQ420 out for a test drive round Cardiff last week after my holiday and it was blisteringly fast. Would obliterate the M3 having borrowed one for 2 weeks so i got a chance to compare them.

I dont think i would be able to live with the evo on a day to day basis though, far too hard and stiff drive.

M3, much easier car to live with.

Need to be careful with your licence though as you will lose it pretty fast with these cars.

M3's are nice cars but unfortunatly around my way there like belly buttons......everyones got one!! Well saying that, it seems to be everyones getting the IS200's too as the prices have dropped so much!

I was considering an evo but it just didnt suit me+as you say its a hard ride as a 24/7 car,The one reason i dislike the m3 is cos it is common, the reason i opted for the m3 in the end is,its 343bhp std,can be taken to 400bhp with £1.2k although bmw wont touch you warranty wise.prices for F1 SMG2002 model with sat/nav/tv/good spec between £17.5k-£25k depending on what you wanna spend, all between 25-60k miles.insurance is £500 more than supercharged lexus.overall service costs can be variable just like lexus,so lots of shopping around, but advantage is there are more bmw specialists than lexus,so more competitive pricing.basically the car is similar to the lex but slightly more luxurious, less space but double the punch.i wont be selling my lovely lex,if no one wants the s/c it will stay on.the dealers wanna give me £7k for it 2002(02)IS200SE navigator with 78k miles, its not happening.also looked at s4,very quick, its just it didnt feel that quick, cos its too executive in there and all the engine sound is blocked out,and its ashame cos its a good V8.nice noises from the m3 tho.

Yeah fella good point about the S4. A couple of the guys I used to work with had a competition going where they'd be upgrading their cars constantly to see who could get the quickest, one ended up with an Audi S4, the other with a Subaru Impreza P1 - it was bizarre, the fella with the S4 upgraded from an M3. The M3 felt incredibly fast, as did the Subaru, you were always getting thrown back in your chair, whereas the S4 just felt slow, until you looked at the speedo!

Guess it's all about refinement.

Personally I'm really liking the sleeper look. That's why I've gone for the Aigo, that's going to surprise so many people performance wise :o

That was the major reason I loved the modified Lexus models - no-one ever expects them to be quick! Mat's Monster was insanely fast and the next quickest to that I've been in was Zee's turboed Altezza. I think the noise makes a lot of difference.

Test drove a GS430 and that seemed slow - at least until you checked out the speedo and realised you were flying!

You've gone from a supercharged IS to an Aygo? What's that like?

Despite being common, the M3 is a great car, but unless you want a convertible, I'd prob go for the old shape M5. Much more exclusive, and love the way it looks at home whether on a race track or parked up outside a fancy hotel B)

Yeah the M5 is a great looker, would have one of those over an M3 any day of the week!

As for the car, no idea pal, not picked it up yet, hopefully doing the deed tonight and then for a good old blast on the way home!

Hi,

If i was going for a Quick all rounder car out of the box id go go for the M5 ;)

Ive driven the older straight six 3.8 litre version around a 1992 and its a dam fine car B) that was a friend of mines car,his kept that one and also bought the newer verison not the V10 but the V8 400bhp one, again a Great all rounder of a car but in everyway better than the six cylinder one because of more power/Torque.

He does like to try a compare his newer V8 M5 against my Aristo, but like ive told him theres 19K difference in the price between cars

Im not really a BMW fan but i do respect BMW for staying with RWD B)

I was looking at some V8 M5s the other day. Very nice indeed and can pick up a decent one for around £20k

If you are looking at a M5 V8 then do your homework as the first year or so models had engine wear problems ;)

Chips..

I was only just looking. Can't sell the IS :)

The fact that that the M3 is common is a major drag, i agree Rsarin.

I actually believe that the the majority seen, especially round my way are hired and not owned.

People with nothing else to do except drive round pretending to be gangsters with dellusions of grandeur, "init man"

We all know the people i talk of.

Mate, after going round the ring in Dave´s M3 yesterday it was just awesome. The way you can just throw the car into corners and nothing, its just power all the way. This is a 10 year old, 135,000 miles and still like new.

If the new cars are anything like these then you should have nothing to worry about. The only thing that would put me off is being labelled as a BMW driver
