Do All Lexus Is 200's Feel Like They Have Turbo Lag?

hey

been on a couple of test drives in 99/00 is200's and they seem to lack power when u put ur foot down.

1 was a navigator and the other was an s.

ive got a honda del sol and this has a few bhp more than a lexus but it pulls away so much quicker and theres no holding back.

do all is's feel like theres turbo lag or were these a couple of bad ones?

The IS was never built for speed,but driven in the right gear/rev range i dont think its a slouch.

just rev the knackers of it, Toyota engines like to be revved

It's built for quality and reliability with fun driving in mind. You should go for the GS series for the speed.

You get most of the power after about 4500rpm, unless you use F/I its never really gonna be a race car.

Yeah sounds like you're seeing the VVTI characteristics as turbo lag..

Once you get used to it you'll know what gear to use at the relevant point, the car does just drive differently to other makes.....

Honda's VTEC system I'd think would have the same characteristics though?

Yeah they do, but only rev higher. The vvti are slow when you kick the foot down, but when the weights behind them they go well.

The vtec system although based similar to the vvti acts completely differently.

Those sh!tty Civic Type R's dont have the characteristics of the vvti and can pull.

BTW: I completely scared the sh!t out of a divvy in his chav chariot ( Civic Type R) the other day. He wouldnt even look he was that embarrassed. lol!

I had a rather spirited drive back from Chesvegas to Lincoln last night across the A617 and A57 - 11.30pm and the roads were dead - I kept to the speed limit obviously

Nice wide open roads there with sweeping bends.

It was about 14 degress last night and the air was quite dense - I thought the IS was performing a bit better. It's funny though - whenever I have been driving a car and giving it some welly, even my cupra and 1.6 VW Bora and have thought it is going well - the temp has always been around 12-14 degrees outside.

In that case Mark I'll buy you a sticker that says 12 degrees then you can stick that over your temperature readout and you'll always be happy - least you know what it is, the new car doesn't even tell me the temp :o

yeah it is a little similar reactions to my honda but its a lot more noticeable in the lexus. with the honda you have to keep it above 5500rpm to get the full potential, and that baby revs up to 8500rpm.

its hard on a test drive to find out how it really goes because it just feels like your on your driving test. id kill someone if they raced my car when i was trying to sell it.

im not really looking for speed out of it. just thought it felt really slow when pulling away.
