I know most people on here are fairly clued about about these sort of things so any advice would be most gratefully recieved. I'm looking for a flatscreen TV, about 20" for the bedroom. Budget of about £200 - £300 and it would be nice to have a digital tuner. ANswers on a postcard please:

Thanks

Jim

I dont understand why manufacturers are still selling TV's with analogue only tuners???

They had 1 on QVC a 27" set for 400 (around) HD ready...blah blah.......i called them and asked if it had a freeview tuner.....NO....DOH  :megaangry: :nuke: :iraqi-info-minister:

PMSL know exactly where you're coming from - the analogue signal is going to be turned off soon so the stuff is going to be defunct, and it's not like there's anything good on the five basic channels anyway - to be fair there's nothing good on Sky either most of the time :o

Don't think Jim needs to worry about HD or anything for the bedroom though, wouldn't have thought there'd be much use for it on TV's that size anyway, saw some BluRay demos out in the states on big screens, you're talking 80inches and upwards and HD is phenomenal, especially the 1080P stuff!

Personally Jim in the bedroom if I was buying one I wouldn't be looking to spend more than 200-250 quid to be fair looking at the kit on eBuyer...

Mine only has an analogue tuner as I have cable and didnt see the point in spending an extra £200 for the equvilant model with DVB.

As aido says, there pennies now anyway so not sure why manufactures try and get away with charging so much more for them!

Yeah it is a joke really!

Freeview is a weird platform anyway, Topup TV I think will eventually die as most things don't have the card reader that it requires, and the subscription stuff like the porn and the Setanta can be gotten for free if you look on the net anyway!!!

Mine doesn't have freeview either, but it doesn't bother me as I have cable. To be perfectly honest though, the PQ from freeview is awful when compared to cable or satellite, so I wouldn't really want to have it with an LCD as they are so sensitive to signal quality (and I'm a total picture quality junkie :P )

Don't know too much about this end of the market, but this gets the specs you've said (except price):

JVC 20"

I think you'll struggle to get a 20" for £300 (even without a freeview tuner) unless you get one that's not widescreen, which I don't really recommend

well, can't get cable (wouldn't pay for it anyway as don't watch much telly) and don't want another box kicking about but the wife want freeview channels (were still only on 5 channels in Jim towers). Its still rediculous that they still sell telly's with anologue input only

  • 2 weeks later...

I'd say Toshiba and Samsung are the better makes they both come with plenty of sockets to plug in your DVD player etc, Samsungs do look nice though and the picture is very good. If you get an online price Currys will usually match it or give you a free stand/wall mounting brackets. :D

had to extend the budget to just over £400 tho. just missed out at richer sounds. they had the 27" version, HD ready, freeview for £399. all gone last week tho  although to be honest its a bit too big for the bedroom but we would have been fools to pay more for a smaller, lower spec tv

I'll try that with curry's, thanks for the tip
